That's not true. It's border line ridiculous that Lee is holding up the D. He's second on the team in tackles, and was last year. He made several nice plays last game. He's not going anywhere. He lined up plenty of times and attacked with intent. As a matter of fact the de-cleater on Fournette by Davis was set up by Lee when he shot the gap and beat Fournette to the hole and pushed Fournette over to Davis. I thought that was one of the most athletic plays of game. Shoulda got an assist for that. If he figures it all out that'll be a good thing for this team. So until they get somebody he'll play. And he's playing hard. You don't like his size, oh well. That won't be what makes or brakes him. It will be his maturity and adjustment to the NFL and whether or not he cultivates a football intelligence or instinct. There's been great players in the NFL that took longer than this to show they were even beginning to show something.
IMO Lee is getting entirely too much of the blame. The problem is deeper than that. Lee is getting better every single game, but clearly not playing in his optimum position. He did well last game, not superb but much better than in previous games. However, our need for a stud ILB is still there. Quite frankly, we are suffering against the run because our DL is not as good as it once was, we are beginning to really feel the impact of loosing Snacks and Richardson. Sorry folks but Mo is no longer the force we thought we were getting. I'm still of the opinion we let the better player go with Richardson.
Agree to disagree. You're all in for the little twerp, and quite frankly I hope you end up being correct? This is about the benefit of my favorite team and therefore I'd much rather be incorrect. But I see things for what they are. Darron Lee was selected 20th overall in the 2016 draft. There's no way anyone, including you, could tell me he's played up to his drafting spot? Not even close. Sure. He has some tackles. But those are in pursuit most normally. In other words, the play has already blown right by him and the offensive objective has already been achieved. In pass coverage, opposing QB's have a passer rating of 139 against Lee. Are you telling me you think PFF is a bunch of liars? He's never, not even once that I can tell, gotten his head turned to look back for the football? If you have actually seen it, please attach the snippet if you would? I don't believe you'll find even one instance? And yes, I do think it's purely embarrassing to see him get launched on his ass by lead Guards. He not only gets pushed out of the way, he gets pancaked in the process. I've watched Jamal Adams, who is equivalent size, take on and shed OL on his way to getting pressures on the QB. Darron Lee, on the other hand, gets thrown on his ass. Now, 4 weeks into this season, Davis and Lee were both god awful through the first two games. Now Davis is playing excellent football and Lee has consistently been garbage. Mike Westhoff says he's not a 3-4 ILB. He's a 4-3 OLB and I agree. With his size, he's only cut out to play in a 4-3.
IMO Lee is the clear weak link on our defensive unit. What makes you say he is getting better every game? Watching last week I was really keying in on him, and man it was brutal. He looked lost out there, rarely in the correct position, taking bad angles, not getting off blocks. Couple times I actually saw Davis run past him to make a play. It felt like we were playing 10 vs 11 at times, especially in the first half. Also what exactly is his 'optimum position'? I feel like that is the go to excuse for all high draft picks who play terrible. People were arguing that with Pryor and Coples right up to their releases. Same with Amaro. a LB selected in the first round who can't actually play LB is a giant red flag. I'm hoping we can at least salvage him as a role player, but I'm not expecting he will live up to his selection at this point at any position. On the flip side, I was also very hard on Davis the first couple weeks, but he has really stepped up his game since. Still not sure if Davis is a long term answer, but he's had a very good past two games.
Dude, you've been calling him a little twerp since the day he was drafted. And you're pigeon holing him into a specific scheme when the classic 3-4, 4-3 schemes, and prototypes, from bygone eras are hardly even run. He's not playing to what your standard is for a 20th pick like this kid should just step in and be Mike Singletary. One of the ideas and hopes was for him to cover some RB's out of the backfield because of how atrocious we've been there in forever, and now when he's not covering like Deion Fukn Sanders people wanna go crazy. Like he's just gonna step in and do that against Chess master OC's. If it was easy we'd been seeing that throughout the NFL by LB's, and we wouldn't be watching plays like that happening every fucking where in the NFL. When he knife's thru into the backfield you don't see that or don't want to. You wanna say I'm all in on him but that's not true either. I'm looking at positives in the hope that he succeeds. The dude is exceptionally athletic and fast. He has the fucking tools. The D as a unit is changing and looks improved. How about we watch how it evolves before we declare who's ruining it. So far Lee sucks, Mo sucks, and Leo's not any good.
Actually, as it turns out the Jets are much better without Sheldon. In regards to pure statistics and flashy numbers, Kony Ealy is doing much better for the Jets than Sheldon is for the Seaslugs. Sheldon will still be a great addition for the Sea slugs eventually. But the Jets still have every opportunity to be better off without him. Kony Ealy cost them nothing and he's really playing great right now for us. We could also opt to sign him long term, something that probably wasn't possible with Sheldon given his history of behavior.
Lee definitely has the speed no doubt. With that speed I could see him (hopefully) growing into at least a Nickel type role where he can be more effective in coverage. Not something I would spend a first round pick on, but at least a contributor that can add some value. But you have to admit the speed has not yet translated into effectiveness on the field, and the run support has been hurting the D. Maybe that will change, but it's been a rough go so far.
Well, guess what Walt? I call him a little twerp because that's what he is. I say it because I want Mac to realize that selecting him is turning out to be the worst fuck up of his career. And why are you so angry with me calling him a little twerp? I've heard many others call him SHARRON Lee. I've seen Minnie Mouse. I even just recently saw someone post he was and I quote, "a Vernon Gholston style, full on BUST". I would think those posters are the ones you be going after? I also take it you have nothing to point out where he actually turned his head in pass coverage? Like I said, I've yet to see it once. You also realize you can't possibly successfully cover someone unless you turn your head to look for the football, right? Trust me, I want him to succeed as much you do. I'm just choosing to tell it like it is. The truth is Lee is all but incompetent playing ILB in a 3-4.
We've seen signs. Last game showed how the D has changed from last year. It's different. The DL was occupying the OL and guys were knifing in making plays, including Lee. It's a work in progress. Lee has shown some maturity issues and seems to be unfocused at times. He's a little scatter-brained. But that doesn't mean he can't improve. He made several athletic plays last game when he just fired. Also sometimes these guys are drafted with a specific vision and sometimes different skills show themselves over time with them. Gotta give them a chance. Bryan Thomas comes to mind. Teams are happy if they get a player that contributes at all to a good unit, and team eventually, without an asterisk attached to them for where they were drafted.
I really don't understand why you're taking every turn in an attempt to attack me? It's not my fault Minnie Mouse can't play. But I will freely tell you I knew this would happen right from the very second he was drafted? The very second he was drafted that night, I immediately thought Jonathan Vilma. I'm not going to apologize for being correct. My objective take on Mac is the following: His entire future and reputation is riding on the success/failure of the 2017 draft. Besides Leonard Williams, all of his draft from 2015 right through 2016 have been garbage. The 2016 draft class did nothing to help us win games in 2016. I have hope for someone like Brandon Shell, but the rest are role players at best. But his attempts to fix the linebacking corp has resulted in a net effect of almost zero. He's drafted 3 linebackers now with 3 1st day picks and all of them suck. It's surprising Lorenzo Mauldin even still has a roster spot? Dylan Donahue has outplayed him up to now. Jordan Jenkins and Darron Lee plainly stink. So his future is riding on the 2017 class. Objectively, they all seem to be playing great? It has me completely in disbelief. Mac always knew enough to take the BPA. He's done just that in almost every selection he's made. But he's also never understood that the BPA is not always the BPA for your team? Darron Lee illustrates that perfectly.
