Hard to tell, the one he didn't catch, was it a drop or the pass was too far? It looked like he could have gotten it. Still, great game overall!
wrt TT, wasn’t he playing with our 2’s vs the Commanders 1st D? I suspect he would have looked much better either with our 1st team O or against the Commanders 2nd D. Not trying to make excuses for him, but I think context is relevant.
I disagree. I think that's taking things a little too far. He was victimized by poor OL play in his two series. Either the Commanders were playing their starting D or their 2s are better than our 2s. His scramble to find Allen was a great play. He made a great throw to Brownlee on that sideline route and gave Brownlee an opportunity. On another play, none of the WRs were open, and when he tried to run with the ball, both Glaser and Tippman released their blocks and Taylor was stopped at or behind the LOS. There were a couple of good runs by Allen, but he also was stuffed a time or two because the OL couldn't open a hole.
Allen seems like the type of back who will feast if the blocking is good enough. He appears to lose his balance easily when forced to run laterally or attempt to make guys miss. If we can block well enough to enable him to run straight downfield, he'll do very well for us.
If memory serves me correctly, it looked to me like it wasn't a good pass, but perhaps Corley could have caught it. It would have been a really tough catch.
At this point I disagree. I like Peasley better at this point, but that could change as I see more of both QBs. I also don't see the Jets going into the season with 3 QBs on the roster. Travis will either remain on the NFI list (if that's possible) or go to IR. I think they will keep another QB but he will go to the PS. I think it's possible that they could keep both Martinez and Peasley on the PS. At this point, I also disagree that Martinez wouldn't make it to the PS, but that could change as well. I just haven't seen enough of him. I believe that Peasley was playing against the Commanders 2s, but when Martinez came in, he may have beenin playing against their 3s. Even then, the offense didn't do much for the first series or two.
Neither Tippman nor McDonald are rookies, but the guy who made these every play videos made one for each of them, so I thought guys would find them of interest. IMO McDonald didn't look very good, but was jobbed on the roughing the passer penalty.
Nice clip from Michael Nania showing that Fashanu is already picking up technique from Smith: https://x.com/Michael_Nania/status/1822691090199429349
Ya--you make good points--we have 2 more preseason to see--hopefully Martinez gets in earlier next week.
What's the story with Leonard Taylor, III? I heard that he was once projected to be a 1st round pick. Could be the next Bryce Huff.
I guess I can get behind what you're saying? I do think that Allen and Davis looked better in one game than Izzy has. However, I'd like to see more before we make the decision to cut bait with Izzy.
I think the Jets are out on Izzy already. I get why they grabbed Allen when/where they did. But if they really liked Izzy, why draft Davis?
Let's see what Allen does when the games are for real. I remember everyone being high on Izzy at about this point last year and, well, we see where that's gone.
People were high on Izzy because we had Breece Hall returning from injury and not much else in the backfield. He was a hope pick. Braelon Allen is not only a bruising back but he can block like an animal and catch, and he is pretty damned fast for one of the biggest backs in the entire league. The Cornhuskers had him taking shotgun handoffs out of a pro style set a lot last season and the running game was still the strength of their offense: https://huskerextra.com/news/footba...cle_79a3398e-8c67-11ee-8cae-839c53577c6e.html I'll send you some ketchup packets to make eating those words a little easier, my man.
I wasn't saying that he's not going to be any good. Everything I've seen, which is admittedly very little, has been quite good. I'm looking forward to him and Breece, hopefully, combining for a great 1-2 punch coming out of the backfield. Just cautioning against getting too far ahead of myself. We've seen this movie before with Douglas' draft picks, although there is evidence that Hall will buck that trend.
On the plus side Corley is a chess piece who can be moved around in motion and effectively change personnel packages post substitution into a 21. He should also return kickoffs. On the minus side we still have Hackett, with poor preparation and offensive creativity and play calling skills. The Jets always make some good decisions, while leaving a massive obvious potential season ruining loose end.
I’m really high on both Allen and the jackrabbit. Allen seeks contact with the second level which has a way of wearing those defenders out. Davis has great hands, field vision and instincts. RBs are deep. Glad we won’t have a dedicated FB for just two snaps a game. I noticed Firsker and Yeboah taking some FB snaps in addition to TE. I’d like to see Allen get a couple looks in that role too. Get him on the field in more ways.
Seems Allen has a bit of Chris Ivory in him when he runs. The Kid is a Peterbuilt once he gets up to speed. I'm seeing guys literally on their back wondering WTF just hit me..
