Not for nothing, but in reguards to Housh, are we really willing to drop one 31 year old WR for another? I know TJ's been the man, but he's over 30, a product of Single coverage and he's going to demand a small fortune. Let's see what we've got now, and maybe draft one.
Absolutely. No arguement there. I'm just saying, in the grand scheme of things, are we ready to invest in another older WR?
no doubt about it hes heading straight for miami, hes wanted to go there ever since his buddy chad signed there. this is the chad pennington story all over again execpt were not bringing in someone to replace him, not yet anyway
yup..............Though they will clearly upgrade the position...It is possible they like Clowney that much...
Why is it you people can't get it through your thick skulls that Boldin would cost a boatload more than a 1st round #17 draft pick? Try a one this year, a two next year and a player like Pace? Arizona would not even return a phone call if we dangled a 17. They would not let us sniff Boldin's jockeys for that.
That would be a good idea, for Madden. Clevelend doesn't want our garbage for their number one receiver. Especially because they will be looking for a number two receiver like Maclin in the draft. Edwards and Maclin would be a ridiculous combination for them. Brad Smith is far from that, even though Mangini loves him. Thomas would not do anything for their defense, just like he's did nothing for ours when Mangini coached him.
alright not a whole lot of fans with my idea lol, but it was a instant reaction to coles release. let me rephrase this, the jets have a plan right now it will either address alot of depth on this team or were going to acquire a big name player. point blank. boldin to me just makes sense cuz hes the only player i can think of whos an obvious upgrade over Coles. and if a 1st wouldnt be enough im sure tanny would grow a pair and offer a 1st and 3rd and maybe plug more holes through FA. im not saying this is definite just a hunch. Houshmanzadeh? good player guys but no way we let coles go to acquire him. either way someone pretty much picked up on my sentiment of this post when they mentioned the Jenkins trade. to me Coles departure either means all the pieces will fall into place like weve been discussing, or theyre ready to make some moves to put a surprising smile on our face (someone will bitch though, were jets fans right?) and for those who think boldin is impossible then i kept my original post simple in stating we get leonhard and scott or lewis and simply draft Jeremy Maclin or Hakeem Nicks in rd 1 then go CB in rd two. ta dah very very realistic at this point. what weve been expecting but if those are our FA pickups theres no way we dont draft one of those two players in the 1st. fuck DHB i dont want to hear it, lol.
I would trade a 17th overall pick for Boldin in a minute, Yes, he was injured last season. I'm not sure what to make of the sideline outburst, but both sides dismissed it, so I can't take it that seriously. But he is an animal and he's in the prime of his career. And he wants to prove to everyone that he can be the star #1 wideout. Lightning in a bottle. I don't know what the Cardinals' asking price would be for him, but I think maybe our first and a second day pick could do it. Any team that trades for him will try to knock the price down since he'll most undoubtedly want a new contract with his new team.
I'd be thrilled with that. Although i'd rather have Boldin then one of the guys in the draft. I'm for a proven guy, rather then a roll of the dice. Lets not forget the O-line. If Moore is let go we need to fill that slot.
I'd do that too.... but if Boldin was going to be gettable for a first, why didn't it happen already? I'd be on that like white on snow too. The guy is easilly a top ten, proven NFL WR. What is a 17 worth? Any draft pick is risky. Boldin carries little risk. He'd be very happy as top dog on the Jets. Think about how many teams would sell their first borns for Boldin... Miami, Minny, Chicago, Seattle, Buffalo, Cleveland, Cincy, Rams, Philly... the list goes on.
Everyone in Az is a malcontent, because they're in AZ. Previous to the superbowl everyone on the team knew that being in Az was not a good thing.
I don't really think we have the money to solve every position problem. It seems that our QB will not be our strong point this year. Hopefully whoever it ends up being will at least be average or not terrible. This point has been mentioned before, but we may have a tough time picking up someone willing to come to an organization without a QB that is a threat to throw to them. Unless we just throw so much $$$ at them that they would play with anyone at QB. Since we are willing to try to develop a QB from what we have already, why not do the same with our receivers? I think we have more internal potential at the WR spot than the QB slot. Everyone seems to be high on Clowney and Stuckey. I think Cotchery is a good #2 receiver, not so much of a #1. Unless we can get a big name, no doubt #1 receiver (and I don't think there are too many sure #1's out there), then I believe our money would be best spent on defense, and O-line to give our QB some time to think in the pocket. We've already seen what Clemens can do with no time to pass (nothing). I would be happier if the Jets had a solid, top 5 defense and a less-than-average offense than a so-so offense and defense. We have a much better chance of winning with defense and we have a coach who is supposedly one of the best defensive minds out there. I know it's a lofty goal to have a top 5 "everything", but it isn't gonna happen. Maybe we can concentrate on getting guys that make us a no-doubt top tier defensive team, and maybe with a little luck our receivers and QB surprise us and play well. Maybe I'm just a pessimist about being able to sign a whole lot of talent on offense, or that there's available WR and QB options out there at all.
I agree that we don't need to throw draft picks and money at a WR1. Ryan will upgrade the defense and our QB (Clemens/Ratliffe/Rookie/FA) is not going to be asked to throw for 5000 yds. We have the personnel to have a strong running game, which fits in with Ryan's scheme. One could argue that we need a good punter more than a WR1 to fit that philosophy. Besides, we need speed at the WR position and Boldin/Housh don't have it. Clowney/Stuckey do. Scout and draft a future WR1 at #17 or trade down for more picks is the way I see this playing out.
