I'm sorry you had to write all that based on someone's misinterpretation of something I wrote. Perhaps I am a little at fault for not explaining things better.

    This is true.

Of course, we also lost our HOF RB, one of the leagues best pass rushers, and everyone but Moore/Kendall on the O-line too...

    True enough.

No one knew how Chad would perform. No one. No one has even come back from one torn rotator cuff in NFL history, Chad had two. Beating out Patrick Ramsey and a second round pick rookie wasn't exactly shocking to anyone.

Not only that, but the fact that was healthy for a full season was just a miracle.

    True.

True but mostly irrelevant to 2006.

    Better managed as in...better coached?

I didn't expect a 2005 repeat BTW, I'm wondering why this season seems to cancel out everything Mangini has done for this franchise from Day 1.

Not one person here can deny that the 2006 Jets season was a mixture of a TON of luck and great young coaching. Now all that is canceled out because rebuilding an NFL franchise from the ground up is taking too long for their tastes?

I'd understand if he wasn't drafting well...or he was obviously losing the team...or he just made no smart moves ever...but the fact is he hasn't done anything but get this team to play as well as it can. The problem is not Mangini, it's the talent, and he's improved it significantly from the pile of crap he came in to work with.

The D was on the field way to much in the first half because we can't stop the run and we can't pressure the QB.

Both lines need to be fixed for this team to be drastically improved going into next year.

Looks like will have to agree to disagree here, I feel like our lack of moving the chains in the first half caused our D to be on the field to long.

John Fox is not the answer...believe you me. Does not get the best D line motivated in CLT so what the hell is he going to do with a so-so line?

Need to improve the o-line and get a 265 pound FB that can open a hole for Jones. Then we can have a second option to throw. If NE played in a dome...we would have been fucked.

Well the reason, in my estimation, that he didn't 'earn a pass' with last season, is that leading this team to a 10-6 record, considering the circumstances, in 2006, was not half the accomplishment it was made out to be....

Had he taken a franchise in ruin to the playoffs, and then led an injury-ravaged team to a 3-11 record this season, it'd be a different story...

But he led team with pretty much everything going for them, not far removed from being arguably one of the top 4 teams in the conference under a coach many considered a nincompoop, to a 10-6 record and a Wild Card playoff loss....

In my opinion, he didn't earn anything with that season... In a season like this, the HC must be held accountable.... If he had won the Super Bowl last season, or had a nice long Cowher/Fisher-ish track record, maybe he could be given a pass, but that was not the case...

I, personally, don't like hi 'body' of work here... 15 of our 22 starters are there because Mangini brought them in and/or promoted them... He's not suffering because of the mistakes of the previous regime... He's dug his own proverbial grave, and right now, he is laying in it.....

Seriously? I mean I've knocked this team because we played such a sh*t schedule in '06, but Mangini and the coaching staff are reason #1 on why this team improved. They added talent, they got the players to buy into the completely new offensive and defensive systems, and they prepped this team.

So the tougher schedule, Chad's decline, Clement's decline, the loss of Kendall, and our lack of size and talent in the front 7 has nothing to do with our decline?

We're not playing the '06 Titans, Lions, Texans, Packers, Vikings, Dolphins, Texans, and Raiders here.

Everything going for them like...a defense in transition and no size...a QB with two terrible surgeries to the same reason on his throwing arm...a makeshift running game...1 proven WR going into the season...rookies at the two most important positions on the OL...?

And not far removed from being a top 4 team? Dude we lost our LT, RT, C, best DT, best DE, had one proven player in the secondary (Barrett!!)...not far removed? This was those early 2000's teams with it's best talent in decline or gone from the team completely.

I don't even know what to say to this.

So...last year doesn't count unless he won a Super Bowl or magically extended his career into a long and storied HOF type coaching career? Does that even make sense to you?

So...improved play from Ellis (whose '05 was disgusting), DRob, BT (who spent most of his career almost useless until last year), Hobson means nothing? Or Rhodes growth into a top 5 safety? Or Cotchery finally getting a chance to start after years of people begging for him to see the field? Or the drafts that have netted us our elite talents at LT, C, CB, and ILB?

You have got some amazing standards here for a second year HC for a franchise...and you're severely underrating how depleted this franchise really was when Mangini walked in....

The schedule, technically, is not much (if at all) tougher this year, largely because we played 1-13 Miami twice... We've been losing the games we won last year though, which largely falls on the CS...

Chad's 'decline' is largely due to not testing him in TC or preseason (at all), and not protecting him at all. Which brings us to....

Clement's 'decline' is also due to the CS, as he was not good last year, and the FO did not even THINK of upgrading the position in the offseason....

Kendall's departure was also due to stubborn lockerroom politics by Mangini & Co... Our offensive line being terrible falls squarely on the shoulders of our CS.... Running Kendall out of town for a measly $1M, giving Bender the TC/Preseason reps, and then starting the inept Clarke, is ALL on the CS....

Our lack of size/talent in the front 7 is, again, on the CS... We did not even TRY to sign any size up front, while we gave big contracts to the mediocre Coleman and Thomas..... We drafted one player for the front 7 (Harris), and completely neglected the NT position....

A defense in transition, again, the CS' issue.... They kept Sutton aboard, supposedly for continuity, but then tried to fir square pegs into round holes with Mangini's 3-4...

The QB played better than they could have ever imagined, and stayed healthy all season... That was a huge bonus for this staff going in, who had prepared for the worst, with the 1st day QB and bringing in a guy with starting experience...

The 'makeshift' running game was, again, the fault of the CS... The only move they made to improve the running game, although they KNEW CMart wasn't coming back, was trading a 4th round pick for Kevan Barlow....

Every player along the OL who we lost, we lost because Mangini deemed it necessary, and thought he had brought in an adequate replacement....

Kerry Rhodes and Erik Coleman, had both been here both with 90+ tackle seasons in their careers, and were both proven players in the secondary, and Andre Dyson was Mangini's "big" FA move in his first offseason as the Jets coach... The secondary, Mangini's specialty, was fine...

Last year was nice, but 10-6 is not enough to buy him a pass for a season as dismal as the one we're in right now.... An easy-enough schedule, relatively no injuries, and two full offseasons under Mangini.... 3-11 is not the mark of a good, or even decent coach in that situation.... And a Wild Card appearance does not buy immunity....

If you want to give Mangini credit for all of the above (which is pretty fair) you also need to give him blame for the negatives since he's been here, which far outweigh those positives... Many of which are previously stated...

Mangini built this offensive line... Nobody but Moore was here before he was... All of the blame for our terrible LG/RT situations and the inconsistency at LT go on his shoulders..... The subsequent struggles of Chad, Clemens, and our running game follow suit, as it is hard to succeed as an offensive back with no protection.....

That alone outweighs the players who have improved here and there under Mangini...

While Revis and Harris are fantastic, was trading up for them worth sacrificing so many picks that could have been used to acquire size/talent in the defensive front 7 and the offensive line? It's debatable, but Mangini had the opportunity to try to strengthen those areas, and has largely neglected them....

You're so ready to give him credit for the individual performance of players, but there is so much wrong, unit wise, with this team, that could/should have been fixed by a more competent coaching staff...

Not to mention the gross mishandling of the QB situation earlier this season, and the disgusting in-game playcalling and lack of in-game adjustments made by this team...

The negatives FAR outweigh the negatives....

As Mangini has put his stamp more firmly on this team, we have subsequently regressed to the point we are currently at....

Like I said before, Mangini has made his bed, with poor personnel decisions galore, and now he must lie in it

    Worked better than straight-up runs.

Throwing the ball to McCareins - now that is idiotic.

Except for the fact it pretty much worked if it was not for the holding penalty of course.

Once, the first time, it went for a big gain only to be called back. All other attempts at running it resulted in Brad Smith caught behind the line and occasionally manufacturing a few yards. Hardly an effective offense.

Only technically...the fact is last year everyone but the Titans picked in the top 10 that was on that list. This year, we don't have that luxury (except for the Fins and Ravens.

We brought in Colombo and Andrews...we actually brought Andrews in TWICE...AND drafted Bender...a guy who was a favorite OL sleeper for many.

Colombo took a below market deal to stick with the Cowboys, and we would have given up picks to get Andrews. We didn't even resign Clements until every option was run out.

True enough here, but thats ignoring that they actually did try to do something with the O-line.

    Coleman? Harris?

And Thomas wasn't so mediocre last year.

And...who should we have signed/drafted at NT?

The square pegs like Vilma? He's the only one who has truly fallen off, and Mangini had nothing to do with drafting him.

You're one of the people who think we'd do better in the 4-3 I'm guessing?

Think it has anything to do with decent play from the rookie LT they drafted, and drafting a star C? No? Probably not?

Or how about the fact that Chad had someone besides Coles to throw to? You know...that kid that Edwards kept praising but wouldn't actually play?

So...no credit to Leon to compliment Barlow, Houston, and whoever else it was we used?

Fabini looked terrible in '05. Mawae is the weak link on the Titan's line who is there more for his experience than actual play.

    You want them back?

Proven players in the secondary? Many people still don't want to buy Rhodes as a top 5 safety, and he's had two top seasons in a row.

Sure, Rhodes showed athleticism and ability, but he broke out under Mangini who decided to use him more aggressively to blitz...a definite good coaching move.

So again...a much tougher schedule (not facing 6 terrible team), losing our best and most experienced G (admittedly Mangini's fault), injuries to Coles, decline from Clements (who was bad, but not THIS bad last year), teams much bigger than us, a second year QB coming in for the declining vet...all of this is Mangini's fault?

Except I don't buy that the negatives outweigh the positives. I accepted that we were rebuilding a long time ago, and I know bumps (full season bumps) come with rebuilding. I still see a ton more good than bad.

Of course then you're asking him to change his drafts...which potentially means no Revis OR Harris...and you're actually miffed at the inconsistency of a 23 year old second year LT who dominated the likes of Suggs, Taylor, Osi, Schobel just this season?

How quickly do you think an O-line can be assembled anyway? Who should he have signed to get us that quick fix? If you're going to criticize, what were alternative routes? How do you know he didn't try those alternative routes? I mean, it doesn't seem like you acknowledged he DID bring in two young RTs last offseason. So what should he have done?

    Really? Why?

Such as who? Who could have fixed our front 7 last year? Carriker? He went 13, we had the 14th pick after moving up.

Right now, the biggest blemish on Mangini's mark is the '06 3rd round IMO.

Thats such an unprovable blanket statement...how? What should he have done differently? Not cut Fabini and Mawae? Held a gun to Colombo's head and forced him to sign? Given Andrews a ton of money? Take Ngata over D'Brick even though we desperately needed O-line help and D'Brick was a consensus top 5 talent for 2 straight drafts?

    Gross mishandling? How?

A coach who learned anything under Parcells would NEVER want to throw a young QB behind a mediocre at best O-line and no running game or D to back him up. It's just not how you develop QBs, but his hand was forced there because he was damned if he did (the people whining about how Clemens sucks right now) and damned if he didn't.

    ...

A statement that is more cleverly worded to bash him than it is actual proof that this team is actually going to regress FURTHER wit him at the helm in the future.

Or he's got a lot more work to do. It's not easy to build a Super Bowl contender in 2 offseasons when you acquire a team whose O-line, QB, and D-lines were depleted/declining before you even stepped in.

To fire a coach who has actually done more good for this franchise than anyone since Parcells simply because you're not happy with his second season is just ridiculous. If the guy was a complete idiot I would have admitted that a long time ago and joined you, but are you serious? Not even 3 seasons to complete overhaul a franchise? The team sucks in his SECOND year and its off with his head?

How can this franchise make any progress at all if people want the 35 year old HC gone in year 2 of a rebuilding project...or they want his 24 year old second year QB gone so we can blow our wad and cap space on another QB in the first...or we should switch back to our super crappy 4-3 because the 3-4 switch didn't put us in the top 5 by week 3 last year...?

Seriously, WTF do you have to do to please Jets fans? It's not like we were actually serious contenders after last year.
