I would actually be OK with that. There is some upside to Bollinger in this offense especially in his feet and ability to throw depper that he would give us.
Ramsey has been pretty bad all camp. I'm thinking he's as much on the bubble as Bollinger right now. The nice thing about this camp is that it seems like there are no sacred cows. Chad still does not know if he's the starter and nobody has been suggesting Curtis will even play this year. So 6th round pick or not I think Ramsey has to play his way onto the squad and so far there are no indications that he is doing so.
I absolutely agree that Ramsey has been the worst so far (the order I gave in my earlier post was Clemens, Pennington/Bollinger, then Ramsey). It really comes down to how much Mangini cares about preseason expectations (and the history that drives them), since there were some for Ramsey, and none for Bollinger. I will not be stunned if Ramsey is cut in favor of Bollinger, but I will be surprised.
The issue I have with Ramsey is that he performs very poorly when challenged for his position. He basically gives away the starting job gradually when it's handed to him and then only plays decently when the other guy is injured. I just have this gut feeling that he's actually worth a lot less than he seems to be because he is unable to put his best foot forward unless nobody else is around. Bollinger on the other hand is a mediocre NFL QB at best but he did show signs of improvement last year near the end and actually helped the Jets win a couple of games. This is going to be a really tough choice for Mangini and could well have a noticeable effect on the Jets performance this year.
I will cast my dice now. For me , and I did not see last nights game but have read many articles today (pant) I would be happy to go into the season with Penny, Clemens and Bolly. Ramsey just seems to be the odd man out and I think would not be happy with anything other than a starter spot. Wheather there is a team out there still not set on there #1 remains to be seen. maybe miami would take him . I don't see Culpepper staying fit all season , he looks FAT.
That's exactly what all 3 QB's were doing last night except for one deep throw from Clemens. And it wasn't the prettiest deep pass I've ever seen either. Clemens' throws seem to wobble a lot. He doesn't throw a really tight spiral, but it gets there
I hope these guys in the FO are really working some magic. I can't see getting anything for bollinger or ramsey. I mean who would trade for them? The bills?
they actually did that with the egg in the first game-but nobody else in the league is stupid enough to bite .:rofl2:
clemmins is the egg's competition for the #1 spot. bolly is battling ramsey for the #2 spot. they should just designate brad smith as the #3 and lop off the egg and ramsey, both. neither one is the future, or will ever be.
winston, it's too bad there aren't more clear thinkers . too many homers and sunshiners around, and you'll get flamed. just like when we pointed out how bad herm and dumbway were, but the duo was able to get the sheep to defend them by gravy-training tuna's players to back into the playoffs.:shit:
the egg can make nothing ( fumble, pick) out of something- just ask the raiders, bills, pats , bucs, giants, .......:shit:
Based on what I've SEEN, my projection is this: Bollinger, Clemens, and Pennington...in that order. If Clemens wasn't a rookie, I'd have him at number one. But that line isn't 100% convincing yet. We're another draft pick/FA away from being secure on our line, plus our two rooks need a season to marinate. Bollinger is the best quarterback on the team right now based on: desire, intelligence, and ability. Pennington looked good, but I still don't feel comfotable until he takes his first big hit in a real game. Ramsey is a total waste of cap room and roster space. I know Bollinger will be the sacrificial lamb thanks to good ol' business-minded sports management but...the kid has never been given a fair chance. And each time, with the little support he's been given, he's shown something. That kind of player shouldn't get thrown under a bus. Even if he's backing up a sack-away-from-retirement or the franchise's future. But to lose Bollinger for Ramsey? Abso-F'n-ridiculous. Bollinger deserves to be a member of the New York Jets, period.
i would only disagree in that i'd rather keep ramsey than the egg- more durable , better arm, and much more cap friendly. he could be coached up, but the egg is one good hit away from another stint as a towel-waver.:shit:
I think Ramsay or Bollinger has to be cut, and I'd prefer it to be Ramsay. Keeping 4 QBs is fine when the 4th choice has to be brought along, but it's clear Clemens isn't #4 and neither Bollinger nor Ramsay are going to improve significantly playing with the scout team/backing up the scout team. There's no value in keeping two veterans at #3 and #4, unless they're being paranoid about Chad's chances of staying healthy.
Pennington Clemens Bollinger in that order i have it after 2 preseason games. and quite frankly to be honest clemens has been our most impressive qb but we will leave that for another discussion.
Stat I'm convinced you and I have a warped sense of what a NFL QB is. We actually watched football when the QB was not only a weapon but the biggest weapon on the field. Guys today are publishing pictures of Pennington throwing 45 yard bombs in open lanes as proof that he has an arm. We grew up with a QB who threw 45 yard ropes off his back foot with guys in his face. I think it's a generational thing. Some thing happened to turn this game from making plays to not making mistakes. I still haven't seen a Jet QB actual drop back set up in the pocket scan the field and make a throw down the field. I watched a bit of the Seattle Colts game last night, I thought it was a throwback era game.
One of our Qb's will have to leave before the opener. I still like Bollinger; he has guts. Odd man out will be between Ramsey and Bollinger. So far Ramsey has not wow'ed me at all.
