Here is my favorite scenario. Ryan Fitzpatrick finally stays healthy, and under Chan Gailey's system puts it all together. With a good OL, talented receiving core and a pounding running game he is productive enough to bring the Jets to the playoffs.

He improves on last years 63 percent completion percentage and throws for over 3500 yards and 27 TD's (under 15 INT's). As a 32 year old quarterback he is in the prime of his career and has another 4-5 years of football at least. He becomes a leader of the Jets offense and a face of the franchise. Beards proliferate in New York, not just for hipsters in Brooklyn.

Petty gets 2 years to mature, learn the offense, and is ready to go, waiting in the wings. Teams inquire about him, offer 2nd and 3rd round picks for him, but Petty is such a great prospect the Jets rebuff all offers.

Cut Geno no matter what because he is as bad throwing INT's as Mark Sanchez and he has the demeanor of Michael Vick. Adios tu' chingada.

I love this approach, but given as constituted the Jets have virtually zero cap space next year, some really big contracts (and players) are going to have to be sacrificed to make this happen. The upside is there is virtually no dead money on the books, but major sacrifices are going to have to be made regardless.

Looking ahead...... Hopefully Fitz does well enough to be a stop gap till Petty is ready....,,, and Geno never sees the field again

That was for this season. I'm asking about 2016 and beyond.

If Geno plays well upon his return, he starts and becomes the franchise regardless of what some guys in the locker room think about his attitude. If he struggles, the team looks to whether he is progressing or else drafts a QB next year. Contrary to this forums belief, the QB who plays going forward is whomever plays best and/or is young and playing better.

The only way Geno plays again for the Jets is if he is the last guy standing. How can you trust the guy with your offense?

The thread concerns the issue of QB for the future, not the punt returner in 2017. Last I checked, QB was a pretty important position and worth discussing.

The Jets go get a QB next year. If Fitzpatrick looks good maybe they just sit on Petty for another year.

If Geno gets a chance to play and makes huge strides then he's got a chance but how long can you be tied up in knots watching a guy take 2 steps forward and then somewhere between 1 and 3 steps back right afterwards?

Plus the OP forget the 4th scenario - what if Ryan gets injured and is out for 1 or more games? Then what? They have no veteran backup.

Fans should just take it each game at a time and see what unfolds.

He has been eligible to play his last 32 games so I have no worries about his reliability or whether he can be trusted with the offense. He starts if Fitz falters or is injured this year.

I want to see Petty and Heaps play. Petty needs the experience and Heaps could be the next Hoyer. If Petty and Heaps can just show enough in pre-season, the Jets could IR Smith or better yet cut his sorry ass. Smith is not smart enough to play QB in the NFL and not Man enough to gain respect or lead a team.

Maybe, but this coaching staff wont build around a QB with such questionable character. So he will not be a factor in 2016.

I don't think the coaching staff will decide Geno's franchise future based on whether he decides to pay back 600$. I think the staff will make a decision on whethet they build around him based on Geno footvall commitment and performance
So on this point we disagree.

If you didn't feel like it was a worthy topic to discuss, why even bother to respond? I got tired of discussing all the mess from the last 3 days, and wanted to discuss something else, yet somewhat related, since as the QB position goes, the Jets go. On the heels of the incident I wanted to see what everyone was thinking. I've seen a lot of people trashing Geno, and some in the middle and some defending him. I was curious how people would react in some different scenarios and whether they would just hope that Petty was the answer going forward or would look to draft a QB next off season. I'm sorry the topic didn't interest you.

I love being a Jets fan and having posters trying to play moderator and/or censor and tell people what they should and should not discuss.

the smith era is over.. after what we know now the players wont support him ... they may say they will ..but truth be told they wont heck I wont !!! IK should not have hit smith !! but I understood why ... what smith did was classless ...he punk IK in the lockerroom in front of other teammates u don't do that... he`ll never be trusted again...think about it...would another player come to smith again and ask for his support in anything during the off season again??... maccagnan should talk to tampa about glennon and Tennessee about mettenberger ....the jets D will most likely be to good to get a top pick so drafting a QB doesn't look good ... would be willing to give up a 3 and a conditionally pick for one of these guys

It is even worse when the backward step he took this year had nothing to do with field performance. They just do not have the time for Geno.
