Devils Advocate- If Chad goes 8-8, 130 yrds, 2TD in one qtr against the Giants this weekend, what will we say about him then???
With the secondary the Giants have he better do that. The question is what will we say if he doesn't have a good game.
That the viking game was just due to rustiness, an aberration, which is what we'll say if the offense starts clicking in September. Anyone who has read my tc reports knows i am comfortable with Mangini's decision to have Chad as the starting QB. I spent all day yesterday defending that and Chad on another board. I also like having Vilma at ILB in spite of his deficiencies in the 3-4. I pretty much support all of this CS's decisions, other than cutting McClover last year, which I still feel was a mistake. But, no one's perfect! I wrote this to appease some of the Chad detractors with whom I was debating yesterday, and just threw it out here for your consumption. (I actually asked Green Machine about it beforehand, since i still am not really familiar with this board. He said to go ahead and run it here, too.) It's all good.
They will say the Giants suck, that means nothing. And it is a preseason game, it doesn't even count. Ha ha.
My question is, How can so many fans be so supportive of Mangini, yet criticize his decision at quarterback so much? Don't you think Mangini would play Clemens if he felt he was better than Chad? When he drafted Clemens I thought that was it for Chad because of the new era in New York. Obviously Mangini sees something good in Chad. And I still think if Friday's game was a regular season game, Pennington would of made up for his mistakes.
LOL. I'm an optimist myself. When things go wrong though -- some of the obscenities I let loose are demonic. However, since leaving NY, my love for the Jets has grown. Oh, and now that I live in Athens, GA., Falcons/Georgia Bulldogs territory -- The Quarterback problems down here are a hell of a lot worse! LOL!
Ill tell ya what. If Chad performs shitty in their remaining practices this week and you see Kellen Start against the Giants then all bet are off! There will be no safe assumption that Chad will be the starter this year. I will give Chad a pass for that disaster last week but if he starts in the giant?s game I really hope we see a little down field action or I will start to question what he can possibly do. If I?m correct he gets the full play book to call out their and if he's calling all these little dink and dunk passes then that shows he still tentative in his play calling or Hes not wanting to let it rip (No pun intended)
Things that make me want to give up on Chad and have Clemens starting by game 8 (this is of course conditional depending whether the CS believes Clemens to be capable as the Jets' future QB): - His mechanics reverted to arm-throwing halfway through last season and that's not the way you want to see your QB who has had 2 shoulder-cuff surgeries throwing the ball. - Documented issues with ball speed. - He lacks the fire he had on the field when he first began starting at the position. - While he has overachieved in clutch spots for us in the past, it didn't seem like it was enough from the starting QB of a team you want to see win a championship. - The Jets are rebuilding and this is the perfect season to get a young QB, if the CS does see him as the heir apparent, under center to form that initial bond with the offense and become the true leader of the team. Things that make me want Chad to remain Jets' starting QB for all of '07: - When he does get fired up, he can do some excellent things and make me forget about the arm strength when the play is orchestrated with such precision that it's not an issue. - Chad always gets great chemistry with his receivers and it shows in the way they can anticipate some badly thrown passes and make yardage after the catch. - The offensive line hasn't found itself yet and they aren't ready to protect a young and inexperienced QB like Clemens yet. - Leadership of a young team.
And if Angelina Jolie comes a knockin on my door tonight saying she's horny for a big fat Jets fan, I may be gettin laid... it's about as likely, no?
I am a big Chad supporter. however, the 3rd preseason game is a good indicator of how the season may go. If Chad lays a turd then I fully expect to see KC by mid season.
Jetcane I have real problems with slating you because of the wonderful job you have done in reporting TC this year, insightful and full of good scoops with real technical knowledge of our game. I've read them and enjoyed them. However, I have real problems with this thread which smacks of sensationalism designed to create controversay. Ofcourse Clemmens is making ground on Chad, isn't that the idea of bringing through a rookie backup behind a seasoned vet? Get outa here! Are you seriously saying we would consider starting Kellen after a few bad results. WHAT? behind comback player of the year who has had more than a few bad practices to erode his confidence and has risen to every challenge and delivered. QB is a non issue, I hope and expect Chad has a solid series for us against the G men and if he doesn't he will still deliver during the season before Clemmens the heir in waiting gets his chance. Your threads have me often comparing you to a poor mans Randy Lange, another stupid thread like this and I might think of comparing you to that Klutz Cannazarro looking for something to say for the sake of it.
LOL, okay i just took a look at the Jets 2006 preseason to see how it went last year. First game, they lost to TB 16-3, Chad was something like 9-14, 54 yds. Clemens 10-14 for 92 yds. Second game Chad didnt play (didnt his father in law become ill or something? i think he had to leave the team for a few days) Anyways, Bolly had a big game and the Jets beat the Skins 27-14 Third game vs the Gnats, Chad goes 11-20 125 yds 0Tds, 1 Int IT'S PRESEASON.
And you saw something different during the season? The only QB with more ups and downs was Sexy Rex...hmy:
I did. Must be a time delay over here or good reporting technique by you designed to get the reader hooked on a story. Okay man I hear ya, I'm a big Chad fan and after last year's preseason about will he won't he I took the bait.
Not really. Another guy who deservedly gets his share of criticism. Wasnt he the guy who played in the Super Bowl? I'll take that.
I admit I just threw the bait out there. I was rained out of tc today, and I was bored. And I'll also admit to graduating from law school, so I learned how to make an argument that I dont necessarily believe on a personal level. I support Mangini's decision to play Chad. And after being at tc a bunch of times, I see how much their teammates respect both Chad and Vilma, so in spite of whatever deficiencies they may have, I know how important they are as team leaders.
