Here is the bottom line on Sanchez. He looks great, like Joe Montana for about 6 plays a game. But looks like dog crap the other 30. But some fans really cling to the 6 plays he looks like Joe. Thats not enough for me. Especailly after 3 seasons. I think we can do better.
That's the bottom line? No discussion? No look at intangibles and other factors, simply "6 great, 30 crap, get rid of the bum"? C'mon man! If he's Joe Montana for 6 plays, he can be taught to play like Joe Montana for a lot more plays. You know all the excuses that have been offered up in his defense so I won't go into them, but give the kid some friggin' help before condemning him. Can we do better? Of course we can - in a vacuum. If you don't want to take the cap, the rest of the team, and the fact that whoever you bring in here is going to deal with the same issues into account, sure - we can get a guy with a stronger arm, maybe better stats, etc. But with the situation we have with his contract, the contracts of others, and the alarming lack of depth - we can't just go and "do better".
Admit that we were better than you last year. I don't know how you call it an upset we weren't 8-8 we were 11-5. Some Patriots fans just can't admit the truth.
Amen. It's hilarious to hear fans say we stuff like "all we need" is a QB that's elite, "Superbowl caliber" or like Rogers, Brees, Brady...etc. as if these items are on clearance at Walmart. I equate it to fans of NBA teams that claim "all they need" is a quality 7 footer. There maybe only a handful of guys in the current NBA that can claim that title. The teams that have them aren't about to hand them over. Same is true for the QB in the NFL. This position has the longest learning curve in all of sports. Most guys don't get to the point where fans stop calling for the back-up until age 30. From what I've seen Sanchez is well ahead of that curve in year 3 and this is inspite some questionable personnel and coaching. Sure there are guys that have progressed much faster than Sanchez but those are the exceptions not the rule. Sanchez may never be elite but he is plenty good enough to win. I know the pundits will have you believe that the only way to win in this day and age is through 300+ passing and 30+ ppg but that's not true. You can still get it done through great defense and a ball control offense; the niners have proven that this year and we have done so the last couple of years. We lost our identity this year trying to follow trends. Next year if we stick to who we are through our FA signings, draft and game planning, we should be right back in the thick of things.
What does last year have to do with anything? How did things turn out this year? Oh yea, another Pats sweep of the Jets.
You don't think it's possible? Tim Tebow and his broncos UPSET the Steelers and you don't believe that Mark could end up leading another team to a SuperBowl? If that could happen(above), ANYTHING could happen.
Come on junc, the Jets have been in the Pats review mirror for the better part of the last decade. You really think one playoff win is going to change that?
2 of the previous 3 years we advanced further than the Pats so we have been better than them recently.
Are you a girl aged 6 or 7 ?? He doesn't have a $100 MM contract and there have been lots of QB's throwing INTs to DL the last few weeks.
The other 2 games were both close so the Pats blowout game was a fluke, probably influenced by Leonhard's injury.
Clearly but I do not want to get into it. If the Patriots win this season then all power to them but otherwise they haven't won a Super Bowl since 2004 and that is not really that recent.
After the week 17 Miami game I'd had enough and was over Sanchez - on reflection though I think he earnt a "pass" this year considering what he had to work with. I think as a young QB with the weight of NY on his shoulders and the pundits all quick to jump on him he lost confidence both in himself and his teammates around the time Mangold got injured. Losing that protection meant he was constantly under pressure and perceived pressure to make the play - get him another decent WR, give him some protection on the O-Line, give him a smart OC and less stupid penalties from guys like Mulligan and I think he'll have more confidence not only in himself but in his teammates and things will start to click again. I think the interrupted pre-season due to the lockout would have to play a part as well in stalling a young QB's development. I expect him and the Jets to come out all guns blazing in 2012 and if not then I think questions can be asked. But he deserves at least another year and he deserves to have at least some of the issues raised to be managed if not fixed.
Sanchez is nowhere near the QB Stafford is. 41 TDs and 5000 yards in his second full season of starting. Getting his team to the playoffs after they were 0-16 3 years ago. The Lions still need to fix the secondary but there is not one Jets fan who wouldn't bench Sanchez if Stafford was your starter.
