First off...You obviously did not read all that I have written....so i will break it down for you simpleminded people.... A team that is great--AFC championship and above caliber their first round selection might as will be seen as an early second round selection.... A team that is horrible i.e raiders....their second round selection is seen as a late first round pick because they are so close to the top of the second round.... The tradeoff makes much sense...We will have two shut down corners and a early "late first found pick" (oakland's early second round pick).... All we give up is our first rounder this year which isn't a mid or early first round pick but a late first round to early second round pick.... Opportunity cost...Read about it..... It's pretty similar to the Lakers Gasol for Kwame Brown trade...The lakers gave up a couple first round picks but they pretty much gave up a late to early second round opick becuase they are a championship caliber team....Now if we were the Knicks and we gave up our first found pick now that's a diffeent story because the knicks pick in the lottery and the chances of drafting a potential superstar odds are a lot higher... Listen to Stephen A smith and he will break it down to you simpleminded peasants.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8j9nsqv9m6M
Are you really comparing the NBA and NFL draft? The NFL dwarfs the NBA Draft in terms of later value. Plus, Stephen A Smith is a joke.
how about the thousand other football players drafted in the 6th and 7th round....If you are going to state your argrument mention them as well...Yes I agree with you that they are a few late round draft picks that turned out to be a success but that is rare when you compare them to the rest... success 6th an 7th round players divided by the number of 6th and 7th round players drafted= A very low percentage....less than 2%
Less then 2%? There is AT LEAST 2 good 6th round players a year, that is 1/16....which is not anywhere near 2%. I do understand that a lot of 6th round picks may not work, but why throw it away when we could get Thomas for no picks? Wouldn't you rather have, say, an 8% chance to get a late round solid player then 0?
A team doesn't NEED two shutdown corners. We can draft a CB at the end of the 1st round this year, save our 1st next year, save the player we'd also send away under your plan, and be free to extend Revis' contract in 2011/12. He doesn't have to be Nnamdi, he has to cover teams' #2 WR. You want to talk opportunity cost? How about the opportunity cost associated with our inability to resign Revis 1 year after we'd be giving Nnamdi the highest single year total for a CB in history? We cannot keep both of them. It's a move you make if you want to challenge in a single year and then implode the team. We have too much young talent at too many positions to do that.
Ok...so it is obvious you haven't been reading any of my posts...I did not understand the Final 8 rule and assumed that any player that was a FA we could not get so I said why not give up a late first rounder to get that player before he goes into the FA market and we are unable to get him....I recanted my response but my issue is with you guys telling me that I am crazy for wanted to pull the trigger on trade that requires giving up my 6th or 7th round pick....These picks so late seldom produce productive players yes you may get one or two but that's out of a lot what 60 something players a year...come on 1/60....over a 5 year span 5/300= 1.66% very low
I would say you've acquired "EliTheGiant" status with all this retardation you've infected the board with.
And yet you said that you wanted to sign Antrel Rolle, who would be a FA after being cut just like Thomas. I think you're giving your "thought process" far too much credit.
I was aware if we had a player and let him hit the free agent market, let him go, we could grab another one of equal value....we are letting Thomas Jones go so I figured we would be able to pick up another player such as Antrel Rolle...624 is serving me some water.... get me some cheese and crackers i'm hungry preferably some Gouda cheese and Ritz Crackers
Wow. You're one of those guys who goes to the Star Wars conventions all dressed up like a jedi and gets into character aren't you?
I'm not sure he is not Top 10. # 9 in tackles this year. # 8 in 2007. Obviously hurt in 08. Fairly certain I would rate him at top 10 guy.
i could see him holding up 2 cinnamon buns on either side of his head....pretending to be Princess Leia.
Very rare but look at what you are proving the fact that there is a chance that you could land a quality player....Very rare dude 5/300 1.66%....the fact that you could land a shitty ass player which is the point that I am supporting is more common and is the likely result of drafting out of the 6th and 7th round....Holla at me with your rebuttal
