Kind of a one year wonder as of now. From what I've seen of him it doesn't seem as though he has the fluidity to make the change to OLB, but then again I've seen it tried with worse (i.e., Gholston).
How about Mike Adams for RT WW85? I like the big guy but have most likely seen alot less of his paly than you have. If we are in the 20's I belive he will be available.
Adams is a solid player, I don't value him as mid/late Rd 1 player. I think we are going to have better defensive options.
I would stay away from Mercilus. I've become a little skittish of attempting to transform 4-3 hand in the dirt lineman into the standup 3-4 OLB position. There are plenty of 3-4 OLB options available --- even though the cream of the crop Courtney Upshaw will be long gone by the time we pick in the 20s (unless we go to complete $hit the rest of the season). V. Burflict is definitely a Rex Ryan type of guy. He'll be around that late in the first and would provide a ton of flexibility (inside/outside - even bust Bart Scott outside a little bit). I do like what I've seen of McIntyre, Westermann & Maybin on a rotation basis as well. Remember Pace just turned 31 & is beginning to slow down himself. Bobbie Massie (OT from Ole Miss) was mentioned. I think he'll declare since Houston Nutt resigned, but it seemed like he didnt really have an improved 2011 season. Thoughts?
I am still hoping for Upshaw, but I think Brandon Jenkins will be an excellent consolation prize for OLB. He has some experience covering people in addition to being a good pass rusher.
I like Upshaw alot myself, but I think we'd have to pick in the 14-17 range to have a shot for him...not that I know I'm always wrong on where players are drafted lol.
in fact the last time I was right about a player, other than the #1 and #2 picks which are easy, was Gholston, and we know how that turned out.
Is it true that Dont'a Hightower is 6'4 260? Thats a big ass mlb. Anyone want to list their top picks for OLB? I know people have discussed Jenkins, Upshaw, Mercilus, Lindsey, Curry It would be nice to get peoples opinions of them, comparison's/where they should go....
I've soured on Vontaze Burfict recently. The kid's still a hell of a talent, but he's not superhuman linebacker I once thought he was. He's a vicious SOB, but I've caught him jogging before the whistle one too many times this season. The flags and the benching don't particularly bother me (though they certainly aren't pluses) as much as what I'm seeing in terms of motor.
I am still hopeful that Upshaw drops to us in the first. Looking at the draft order specifically in the 10-15 range right now it is definitely possible. Kansas City (6-9) - Has Hali and just drafted Houston so no Buffalo (6-9) - definitely possible Arizona (7-8) - possible but could a variety of ways including getting a WR next to Fitz, suring up the O Line Philadelphia (7-8) - Don't see it Seattle (7-8) - Don't see it San Diego (7-8) - Another possibility, but is also very weak on the lines in general Chicago (7-8) - Don't see it Tennessee (8-7) - Possible, but also has needs on the line and could go with a WR with Britt's injury Dallas (8-7) - Maybe, but also could go DL or help out the secondary And as for the teams competing with the Jets know Cincy: Don't see it Oakland: Don't see it Denver: Don't see it Its no guarantee, but I am not going to rule it out yet. Other than that, I think I am on the Nick Perry bandwagon
Im very interested in melvin Ingram, he should be picked right in our draft range. I am personally VERY high on big Melvin.
I can't post links on here yet... but did any one see the video on you tube of Upshaw vs the LSU game? I wasn't that impressed.
I guess Tamba Hali and Terrell Suggs, who both also ran their 40 time in the 4.8's, wouldn't fit in this scheme than right? That guy Suggs was just turrrrible when Rex coached in Baltimore. Btw a "projected" 40 time is worthless anyway. It's "projected" for a reason, he'll clock in faster than 4.86....not that it matters anyways. Ingram makes plays, athletic, and is just a baller. Not to mention he might just be the most versatile front 7 player coming out this year.
Suggs is 6'3 260 Lbs. Hali is 6'3 275 Lbs. He's bigger then both at 6'2 276 and I actually think hes more in the early 4.9 40s but hes a big strong guy who can stop the run but we don't need a OLB like that.
