I try to think of the absolute WORST direction-changing thing, and this guy has a two-way hydrant up two minutes later. bravo.
I never called you beyond retarded, which shows your level or reading comprehension. Thought you were leaving anyway, so peace.
I definitely saw improvement over last year. People were going to say he sucked unless he got 2 or 3 sacks today. He looks a lot better than last year, but like you said he still has room for improvement.
Holy shit, he didn't get a sack. We're fucked. Absolutely fucked. Better cash it in now and look forward to the draft. Maybe he'll play so terribly that we'll get a top 5 pick. Think we can trade Sanchez for draft picks so we can rebuild? Give it a break. At least wait until after week 1 to start freaking out about Gholston.
You know what's funny? I can pretty much guarantee you that if it had been Gholston getting the sack instead of David Harris that people would be on here complaining that the only reason he got the sack was because Kerry Rhodes forced him to step up. I'm convinced that nothing Gholston does will ever be good enough for some people here.
I can't believe you would even mention Scott and Gholston in the same post. Scott looked good, closed gaps and on one running play absolutely BLEW UP the Rams' pulling left guard up the middle so they could stop a running play for a short gain. For an undersized guy,Bart Scott can lay the lumber. That guard was on his hands and knees shaking his head like he got hit in the head with a baseball bat. Gholston. Gholston was fucking putrid. He play with as little or less heart on Friday night as he did the entire 2008 season. He couldn't even get off blocks from the Rams' second string O-line. This guy is going to be our starter in week one? OMG. If that is true, then I can't wait until week four. Vernon Gholston did nothing worthy of being defended for on Friday night. 'He did chase down the QB'. That's a nice way of putting it. He's almost as slow as Dewayne Robertson. I don't even want this overpaid sack of shit on the roster anymore.
What has he ever done? Really again, people aren't looking for LT here, just some solid plays from him. So far, it appears to be lacking.
Again, you guys won't be satisfied no matter what. Once people around here hate a player, it doesn't matter what they do. Some of you enjoy bitching way too much and need someone to bitch about. Before, it was Chad, then Mangini, and now it's Gholston, Rhodes, and Thomas Jones. Some people aren't happy unless they're complaining.
Blah blah blah. People that give this 'wait and see, project player' nonsense any credence are far more conducive to shitty football play than anyone you are trying to generalize. What has Gholston done to warrant any defense of his terrible play? Do you really want that much cap space to be devoted to what amounts to a boat anchor wearing a football jersey?
Blah blah blah. See, I can do it too. I'm just more willing to see what Ryan can do with him instead of giving him one preseason game under the new coaches. I'm not saying he's going to the PB this year, but he showed definite improvement over last year. He's not close yet, but there are still three preseason games to go. You, and several others, aren't even willing to give the guy a chance under this new coach. You want him to fail, so the only thing you focus on is any negative you perceive to see. He's not going to beat his man on every play. If he did that, he would be the next LT. He's going to beat his man at times, and he's going to get beat at times. But it doesn't matter, because you want him to fail, so the only thing you're ever going to focus on is a negative play. Do I think he's doing great? No, of course not, but I did see some improvement over last year. Some of you guys were expecting him to tear things up and it's just not going to happen after one game.
That's not true. The year he gets 80+ tackles and 10+ sacks and earns the 50 million he is getting paid, everybody will be happy. Until that happens don't expect a rooting gallery.
Funny you mention that. When he was on the field, I told tballlz, "We're playing 10 on 11 right now. Everytime Gholston is on the field, we're always gonna look 1 man down." It's the 1st pre-season game so all I'm left to say and believe in, is that he will get better in this new system as the year progresses. I don't know how, but I hope he does. Maybe on one play, sometime this year, he goes completely un-blocked and he crushes the opposing QB. Chances are, he will be totally surprised and trip on his way there. QB throws a 15-yarder that ends up going the distance for a TD.
You and several others (see, I can make stupid generalizations, too) aren't even willing to recognize his bad play. What 'definite improvement'? Did he get blocked out of plays more aggressively? Did he make a better half-assed attempt at pursuing a QB? Tell me what specific 'improvements' you saw. I didn't see this guy make a SINGLE MOVE on a blocker. It was always straight-up bull-rush and he couldn't even get by 2nd string tackles. I mean, he got stood up and couldn't get off blocks. I want to see SOMETHING. If I see him make and improvement, I'll be happy to admit I'm wrong. But I don't see anything, and I was paying very close attention to this guy. He's terrible. You are enabling mediocrity. It'll be interesting to see what you say to enable his crappy play when good teams like the Pats and Titans are running straight at this guy as some TE is pushing him out of bounds. and opening a hole the size of the grand canyon.
The Jets CS are going to have their hands full with Gholston....because you can't teach "desire". He either wants to put in 100% or he doesn't. A man with his supposed athletic ability.....he should be doing the "needful" a little more often on the field, IMO> Everybody is talking about Gholston's "improvements".....i watched the entire game...you don't have to be from Missouri to know that Gholston didn't show very much at all. So let's cut the bullshit. Preseason is preseason....but come week 1....that overpaid underachiever better flip his switch to "ON" and start earning his paycheck.
