Jets will interview Rhule, but it will be done in a smokey backroom and they won't announce anything since it may hamper his recruiting efforts Intrigued by him. But he also has that Morninwheg deer in headlights look to him. I know it means nothing but he's the guy who will give you great loljets gifs when we're down 41-3 in the 3rd at home to Arizona
Rhule jumps to head of class as far as I’m concerned. Pair him with Monken and a top DC and let’s roll.
70 per cent of this Board is still all in on McCarthy ...so don't forget the Majority Rhules MMcCarthy>>>Offensive minded Experienced Game Management skills and Wins Playoffs..plus he brings discipline to this team ..a 1000 per cent improvement over TB I wouldn't get carried away with the college boys so fast
I'm astounded that so many people here want a guy who has never coached in the NFL, even as a position coach. You're completely ignoring that huge leap it is in responsibility and coordination from even being pro coordinator to HC - look how many have failed, including the last five Jets coaches. And yet, somehow, magically, Kingsbury will make this leap seamlessly and be up to speed season one? Puhleeze! This smacks of the type of gamble a desperate gambler makes to come up with the money to avoid foreclosure by placing his last remaining money on Black 23. I can see Monken and Bieniemy, and even Rhile who HAS coached in the NFL and turned two college programs into winners, but Kingsbury? Desperate.
Its a very difficult climate right now. The league is turning “new school” almost overnight w basically the only thing standing in the way being Bellicheat. In some instances Past HC or even NFL experience might not matter bc frankly all these retreads are considered “passed by” & also everything in these coaching staffs are so specialized now anyway. Your head coach does 2 or 3 things really well of which includes addressing the whole team & steering the ship..anything he cant do he delegates to another coach or someone behind the scenes; Thats the NFL we’re currently in W where the jets are in terms of being clueless theyre in a no win position. They need a proven winner but just as badly they need dynamic leadership, energy & some modernization.IDK what the answer is
It's sort of a pick-your-poison situation. With a hot-shot OC, there's always the question as to whether the guy can make the transition to HC. The reason Sean McVay and Matt Nagy are such hot stories is because it's highly unusual for an OC or a position coach to succeed instantly as HC. It's man bites dog. More fail than succeed. So you have that, especially with a team that does not have an overpowering roster and that needs discipline and a culture change. I remember reading an interview with Parcells in which he said he was shocked at what a jump it was to go from Giants DC to HC. He almost got canned after his first season as Giants HC. With retreads, never forget that there was a reason the guy got fired from his previous HC job. You have to worry about burn-out. Will he coach with passion or will he just collect a paycheck? Is his football philosophy something that would work in today's NFL, or is he adaptable enough to change with the times? Ultimately, it depends on the individual coach. Probably more importantly, it depends on the judgment of those who are choosing the new coach, and that's what worries me. It's probably a safer choice to go with a retread because you have a pretty good idea what you will get. I'm nervous about Maccagnan and Woody/Chris swinging for the fences on an unproven OC, college coach or position coach. I doubt this organization has the institutional structure to help an unproved coach make the transition.
Thanks! I just read the Mehta article about him, and I have to say, that even though I despise Mehta, I am impressed reading about Rhule. I definitely will be doing more research on him, but he sounds like he could be a good possibility.
Hopefully, it's just to pick his brain, and maybe establish a connection for the future. They may consider hiring him as QB coach or OC or something.
Looks like Todd Bowles was hired on January 14, 2015, so expect the Jets to hire their Head Coach within a week or so. If I remember correctly, the Seahawks with Dan Quinn and the Cardinals with Todd Bowles were both in the playoffs, so it took a little longer. Could happen again if they want someone like Eric Bieniemy though.
Yeah, and here's what Bowles said, "I'm sorry to inconvenience you by being in the playoffs, Mr. Johnson. I guarantee it will never happen again."
I like what I read about Rhule in the Manish article, which makes me wonder if it's too good to be true.
Wow I am surprised you guys are high on Rhule, he has only ever coached in the NFL for one year. That scares the shit out of me, no matter how much he has impressed in the College Ranks. Ive said it before, more than any type of Offensive or Defensive minded coach, we need a Leader of men. Get a cutting edge hot shot OC and a proven DC, but make sure the HC is a fucking leader, thats more important to me than anything.
