Beats wasting 3-4 years on someone with nothing to their name other than perceived possibilities that mean next to nothing.

I just hope that Johnson/Mac make the right hire for this organization. Look at the Colts as an example. Last year their first choice was McDaniels who backed out leaving the door open for their 2nd choice Frank Reich. Look at the job Reich has done. I just hope the Jets can get the right coach for this organization like the Colts did for theirs. Whoever that is I have no idea.

How many playoff appearances and division titles has he won recently? You can't coast on your laurels. If you don't adjust and adapt to changing times and situations, then what you did in the past is meaningless.

No, it isn't. It's thinking deeply, looking at the Jets' situation, looking at things with an open mind (realistically), and not just living in the past.

Unfortunately, this isn't how it works. The HC will be bringing in coordinators from their tree. Does Monken have a rich history with Rhule or McCarthy?

A number of posters on here were saying that they thought this year's team should be capable of being a .500 team, if not making the playoffs.

    Folks.

Now that most interviews are complete, I will be locking individual threads for candidates. Let's keep discussions on this thread until a breaking news pops up.

    Thanks for your understanding.

    Mngmnt.

You have a point or two, but they are also overstated. If McCarthy is so capable of putting together an excellent staff, why didn't he in GB? Why didn't he hire an OC who was more creative/innovative? When they no longer had Jordy Nelson, Greg Jennings, James Jones and all the great receivers, and basically only had one (Davante Adams) who could consistently beat his man one-on-one, why didn't he scheme more plays to get his other WRs open? Why were more combination routes and formations with stacked WRs added? Why wasn't more emphasis placed on the rushing attack? Also, if McCarthy is such a great manager, why is he so often criticized for his game and clock management?

Aaron Rodgers has carried that team for years, just like Luck did in Indianapolis.

Excellent point. The problem is that there are excellent points on both sides of the McCarthy issue.

    Well since 2010 he's been in 13 playoff games. He made the playoffs in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016. He won the division in 2010, 2014, and 2016.

He lost his starting QB, Rodgers, in 2017. And this year we are all aware of the dysfunction.

In 2016 the Packers went 10-6 and lost in the conference championship game.

I'd say he has a very successful recent tenure

I could too, if McCarthy would give Monken free reign, but even then, the chances are that Monken would only be here for a year or two tops, and some other team would hire him away to be their HC.

No I know, it's just wishful thinking. Not sure if there is any relationship between them all. I do know about one relationship tho that could come with McCarthy, and it scares me to no end.

It doesn't appear so. The three have no connection other than they have all interviewed with the NY Jets for a head coaching job lol.

I don't see Rhule leaving Baylor to be an NFL assistant. But Monken is out of a job so I suppose him being brought in as offensive coordinator is possible. But it would strike me as bad management if the owner and GM were forcing a new HC to hire him as offensive coordinator. Head Coaches should be able to pick their own staff

It's more likely that it's HC or bust for all these candidates

Favre isn't exactly the sharpest pencil in the box. I wouldn't use his recommendation for anything.

Because none of those three are experienced NFL HCs. You don't want three novice coaches in the three most important coaching positions (HC, OC, DC). If you're going to hire an experienced OC and DC, why not hire ones who have been HCs before? They can help advise the novice HC if he wants it. Lots of baseball managers, hire former managers as their bench coach or 3rd base coach.

No two teams are in the same position. There are some similarities, but no two are identical.

Was that before or after the schedule came out? Unless Macc hits a homerun in the draft and doesn't f up the FA's he brings in, we're looking at 3-5 wins max.

i will say this - as much as we (and rightfully so i think) bitch about the jets org structure, it actually may work in our favor to get mccarthy to accept the position. I don't think he has any previous links to macagnan so having his own one way path to the owner may fit his ilk.
