My concern with Matt Rhule is first will he be calling the plays offensively ? I'd prefer a HC who works with the QB and calls the plays by himself. I don't want to have to hope to get a good OC and then hope said OC doesn't get poached next year and have more turnover for sam. My other concern is that he hasn't really developed any top players from what I've seen in his college years at temple and Baylor unless you count Robby Anderson who he kicked off the team. He has a background in Defense and offense which I guess is unique but idk I want my coach to be a Coach that can develop sam and excel in the X's and O's
If Monken is the hire (which I would be Very happy with) he will need to hire an established DC to run the defense.
Blessing in disguise. The thought of trading away the #3 made my stomach turn. Harbaugh overachieved this year, for sure.
He gets a lot of attention for being dreamy, looking like Hollywood heartthrob Ryan Gosling. He had the nickname "Coach Gosling" on campus at Tech. A lot of people mocked it because they thought he wasn't very good at his actual job coaching football.
It's probably going to be either Rhule or Kingsbury at this point and I'm more than content with either.
Gase is a great oc he’s not a good head coach. Pair him with rhule or KK and you might have a good duo
I don't want another entry level hire. Gase is the best option I think. McCarthy has zero upside. What you see is what you get, he's not a great HC, he's not Parcells. He's not "changing the culture" here.
I dont like the word Mehta either, nor the person, but not sure mods here can ban him from being the Jets beat writer
Frank Reich was an entry level hire as a hot OC last year and has the Colts doing a great job all around Just pick the right guy....most of these guys with experience are unemployed for a reason
He's the only one that was reported that they had dinner with. He had dinner with the Jets on Friday night and he interviewed on Saturday, and it was fairly late on Saturday, I believe, when the announcement was made that the interview with McCarthy was done.
I disagree. Passing game Coordinator is the ONLY time he has coached on the offensive side of the ball. Every other job he has had he was a defensive coach, and as a player, he was a defensive player. One job on the offensive side of the ball, and it not even being OC, does NOT indicate that he knows both sides of the ball.
All it says to me is that NFL teams are desperate, period. They don't like any of the retreads, and coaches like Saban, Sweeney, and Peterson aren't interested in going to the NFL. Since the NFL is a passing league and adapting more spread offense concepts, they're reaching out to any collegiate HC/OC who is decent at all.
