I think Sanchez won both the games I mentioned and Romo lost the third. I don't think a defense that had already given up 21, 24 and 24 points respectively to that point had any part in it at all. I said the stats looked good and they did but if you think for a second this years defense looked anything like the past two years you are sadly mistaken. They couldn't stop anybody from running or any tight end from catching the damn ball in any game they played all year. Opposing teams had a field day against this defense. Like I said we could have easily been 5-11.
So the offense gets a pass for sucking dick for 55/60 minutes a game as long as they put up if the D keeps the game close? You're probably one of those clowns who pinned the Denver loss on the defense too. Unbelievable.  How about we build a competent offense to couple with a pretty good defense and consistently be in position to win games?
The knock on the 09 and 10 defenses was the same one you're making for the '11 version, so apparently they did look like the 09/10 versions. All three years the offense has limited this team. No, not in the AFCCGs, but they failed to bail out the D there as well. And by your own logic, they deserve blame for that.
Come on Don, you're better than this. Don't result to straw man arguments. I believe Sanchez won both of those games too. All I did was take your quote (which I did not misrepresent, unless you were trying to discuss something different) and responded to it. Why can't the answer be both? Sanchez won us those games, but the defense also made the stop when they needed to (what you said they didn't). I never said the defense won them the game, all I said was they made the stop when they had to. And I agree with you with your last sentence, but again I never made any reference to this years D for the last two. We obviously didn't play as well this year on D vs '09 and '10 but we still finished 5th, aka well above average. We are spoiled under Rex with his defensive smarts so we deem this years D as 'poor' compared to the last two, yet its still perfectly fine, and played relatively well all year despite a couple games (no different than the last two seasons).
Don - can you please tell me where you heard that Norv Turner bought himself a year and that Callahan is looking for a new job?
Quite the opposite for Norv. Schefter was on ESPN today saying Turner is expected to be fired before the end of the week. That was about 2 hours ago.
Agreed times a zillion. People constantly are blaming the D. Ok, yeah they have not been as good as they have previously, but people do realize that we gave up the most points in the NFL, more than half of which came from turnovers from our offense? So stupid people still blame the defense.
I feel the same as OP. If Schotty is back I'm done supporting the team financially until it's rectified.
The defense is average but it's not the reason that we aren't a very good team. The inability to sustain any type of consistent run/pass balance on offense is the root cause of this team's struggles. That blame starts with Schottenheimer and then goes to Sanchez. As long as those two are here this team will never be one of the elite teams in this league. Not only does Schotty absolutely suck as an OC but he's a pompous jackass on the sidelines and acts like he can do no wrong. If he doesn't get canned immediately then Johnson should totally clean house including Ryan and Tannenbaum as they're just standing by and letting this debacle continue.
Who said anything about no longer being a Jets fan? The reading comprehension on this board is fucked...
Schotty's gone. It's clear as day. They don't want to pay the rest of his guaranteed salary and any severance packages so they're trying to pump him up to be a good candidate for a head coach job.
Based on tweets I've seen it appears that as of now Schotty is staying put and Callahan's contract is expired. Tanny wants to meet with him in the next few days. Also Rex made a comment about wanting the same 53 guys back next year.
