Mother Nature cancelled my offshore trip for today. High winds and seas up at Block Island Sound was the culprit.

Long day offshore.... high speed troll was a zilch (aside from gas $ burned)... bottom fishing was fair. A bunch of small vermillions (beeliners) some nice Triggers and pink porgies. I did lose a BIG fish on the 6oz bucktail jig (over 40Lbs for sure) :( and broke off another on the slowpitch rod.... FG knot broke (I've already caught a ton of fish on this same rod/knot o_O

Which SPJ rod were you using? Sounds like you just wore it out Stinky. :) sucks you lost the kraken though.

Yeah, I guess that could be the case.....
Lost the 2nd fish on the spinning rod as I tried to walk around boat of the boat as it was taking heavy drag

SP rod is a Centaur Constellation.... kind of entry level $, but alot better than those Tsunami stiff sticks. Friends laugh as it looks like I'm going bass fishing, it's so small/light

Everybody sez that when they first see a SPJ rig. I think I told you about my trip up to Gloucester, MA. Broke out my SPJ rig and the mate swore up and down it wouldn't work and I would be tangling up folks. Several large Cod later, he was still saying the rig wouldn't work. Then he asked me if the jig was a "flat fall". :)

Sounds like the perfect rod for the depth you usually fish. You don't go deeper than 200ft often do you?

pretty rarely..... 100-200'. (mostly 110-150) in retrospect, I wish I spent the extra $90 and got the "combat arm" model.... same blank, but better guides (that I'm sure will last longer)

Phenix Titan SPJ 60-180g, 6'-8" is my normal SPJ rod for SB and such. I like the range of jig weights. Pitches lighter jigs no problem. Acid wrapped as well. Light as a feather. Costs a bit over 200 but worth every penny.

that's not bad.... I found that jigs under 100G are usually a bit light for me, esp with other people fishing in the boat (and theyre not jigging)

165' ish.... 150g gold/green with glow stripes on the gold side (I thought the jig was in the photo, but I guess its on the other side of the fish)
My 1st legit mutton snapper (prob 15#... 28" at the fork), and on the slowpitch rod/jig so I'm stoked. My buddy was giving me shit for putting away my dropper rig rod and grabbing this.... then I proceeded to pull up a 20# cobia, then the snapper, then a decent trigger.... no debates after that :D
then the current got too strong and went back to bait (heavy sinkers), but the bite kinda shutoff with the current anyway

wish we took a pic BEFORE fishbox rigamortis set in, but this guy was angry when he got gaffed and hit the deck.... and total bloodbath followed... you can see my buddy's primo gaff shot in his head

    * I ordered more jigs online this morning... I have a disease. (at least I get cheaper ones off ebay)

These: (I already lost 3 of the 1st 5... and put new hooks on the one pictured)
