Haven't posted in here for a while but we've been going out pretty much every weekend now on the Luhrs. Had a decent weekend last week. Spent the day trolling chasing frigates. Caught 4 bulls. Found a pallet with a triple tail on it. And then while heading back in, trolled the channel and caught two 25+ inch Mutton's, Summer time is here and the Bahamas trip planning has begun!!
Nice boat. Pretty cool finding that pallet ( unless you hit it going 20 + knots). We once came upon a tree trunk down in Grand Cayman covered in fish. 8 Wahoo, many Dolphins, 2 yellowfin. Best day down there yet.
Alright! Let the NE fishing begin in earnest.. Water temps finally at or above 50*F. Things should start to heat up offshore fairly quickly! Tight Lines!!
Inshore, the Butler Park ramp by my house..... running offshore, the St. Augustine Lighthouse ramp I'm pretty stoked as I think it'll be pretty versatile. Like a Montauk, but more fisherman friendly / spacious. Havent dunked it yet, need the trailer light connections from my truck fixed (had to order a part) and yesterday we had T-storms and pouring rain all day..... boats in great shape, but there's lots of fishing stuff I want to add (it had no electronics, and I want to add / rearrange the rod holder & storage situation..... Leaning post is on the list too if/when I come across a good deal. B.O.A.T.) @Falco21. You got those muttons trolling? interesting Nice boat. They used to be built here in St. Augustine, before they moved their opps back to NJ
I used to but 3mile Is. and all the farms have thoroughly polluted the Susquehanna Riv. We used to have a deep water Army Corp of Engr. Lake but folks kept poaching short fish so PA stopped stocking it except for trout. Very limited options for freshwater. Haven't used my 17ft. Fisher deep V in almost 5 years now. One other lake has a 20hp limit and gin clear water so clear that you can see 20ft to the bottom easily which of course, means the fish can see you too.
I have a boat in Titicus in North Salem and one on Sodom in Brewster. Titicus is a good trout lake but I just can't be bothered with trolling in a row boat (no motors of any kind allowed.) Sodom is supposed to be a good smallie lake as well as walleye, but I've had next to no luck fishing it. I'm probably pulling that boat out in a few weeks. My best LMB on Titicus is 4lb 15 oz. So close to a five pounder. But when I go out I almost always catch something and rowing is great exercise. My dad loved saltwater fishing. He used to take me and my twin down to Miami to go fishing. When I was 8 I caught a 6' hammerhead with my brother. Memory of a lifetime.
In a few weeks I'll be headed out to Western Missouri to visit the in-laws. Usually, me and my BnL go out in his bass boat for Crappie. We fish a lake called Truman Reservoir and everything in that lake is big. Even the bluegills. Truman is 57mi long and feeds Lake of the Ozarks so there's no telling what will hit your line. I've hit Gar using a Crappie rig and believe me, its a bit one sided in the Gar's favor. We go early in the morning because Mo. gets really hot in the summer and the lake water is just too hot to fish. I get my sweetwater fishing in when I get down there as we usually come home with double limits of Crappie and the occasional bonus fish. (Catfish, Walleye, Big Bluegill, SMB, LMB) or just about anything that will hit a jig.
Ran up to Raritan today. Had 15 shorts all off the pier. All caught in shad umbrella rigs. Closest was 27”. Ran up to Keansburg then out to the fence off Shrewsbury rocks. Bunker not on top today. All bait was low. Whales off OG Nice day good to be at sea again.
