Cod slayer..... but now you're going to miss the awesome JETS game. speaking of which, I'm planning on ditching the JETS and hopefully sightfish some redfish sunning themselves in the midday sun after this cold snap we've had
Blizzard hitting NE today. Voyager has cancelled yesterday and today's trips. Tomorrow looks marginal but I'll keep a weather eye on it..
I dunno.. the 4' @ 4 secs is for the ride up there (Sunday nite). 2' @ 4sec on Monday which isn't that bad. The boat is 100ft x 30ft so it has a wide beam and good length. I'll be amid ship's on the port side as the wind will be out of the NW. I want to stay on the sunny side of the boat all day long and out of the wind. I'll be taking my Dram tonite though just in case.
It was really rough yesterday morning. Howling NW winds and temps in the mid-30's with short period waves. The one time I needed the forecast to be wrong, it was spot on. By noon, the winds died down but there wasn't much action off Block Is. so the capt. took us wreck bouncing back towards Jersey so, We got to fish the wrecks off Montauk, NY and several more back towards port. This allowed us several more hours fishing time as the trip home was that much shorter. The bite turned on shortly after noon and although it wasn't helter skelter, it was pretty good. I got my PB Cod and won the bottomfish pool with it. This is my second pool win on this boat during a Block Is. trip. I won it last year too. 15lb Cod which isn't huge, but it was pretty good sized and the mate had to gaff it over the rail. I got a pic but its not as good as the one the mate took so I'll post when it comes available. One last trip this year Dec. 26-27th for offshore wrecks. I will be watching the weather as if it looks anything like yesterday, I'll just cancel and have the boat just hold my pre-pay until 2021.
Damn thing was heavy as hell. Gave my phone to a guy to take the picture but he took it in B/W.. Oh well... I'll wait for the Voyager pic to come out. When it does, I'll post it.
Don't let him fool ya.... pic was before they had color photos solid fish.... like a solid size grouper for us
Took a pass on my last scheduled trip for '20. Too cold out there and I already have plenty fish in the freezer. No need to get greedy so I'm done until April 2021. I'll just take my refund and apply it to a Tilefish trip in June or July.
headin' to the dock at 6am..... gonna be a cold 45 mile run a few fat wahoo would be worth it though..... heard the bite today sucked though. pelagics may be shocked from the cold snap, we 'll see
