We had two caught on the boat yesterday along with several big Cod and Pollock. Had to release the stripers sadly. Its almost as if God flipped the on-switch up here..
Long Island.... I was just up for the weekend too. He had the day off yest, and I told him he BETTER go fishing..... good moon phase and more importantly, the day before a big weather change/front usually gets them fired up.... not to mention, getting close to the end of nice weather
I got 2 more trips scheduled for 2019... Nov. 16/17 offshore SB/Porgy/Cod/Pollock.. Nov 23 or 24th for Blackfish/Tog.
ah...i grew up there. decent surf fishing and in the back channels. nowadays i live in suffolk county and head down to robert moses.
That's where we grew up My brother lives on a canal in Island Park...... but still has a soft spot for fishing Democrat Point. The last summer I lived there (after my freshman year of college) I'd keep my surfboard in my truck and beeline down DPA to Robert Moses almost everyday after (or before work)... that seems like a long time ago and a galaxy far far away
Long day yesterday..... ran out almost 60 miles off JAX. Lots of Triggers, about a doz beeliners (vermillion snapper), a couple of amberjacks, and my buddy got a nice 29" Mutton Snapper. I mostly just focused on the "stringer fish" (triggers, etc) after a few cranks with my wrist. Finally stopped raining and I have a cooler of fish to clean...... I'm tired. May let them sit on ice till tommorrow
no shit.....how bout that. grew up on taft ave in the east end. did not attend the LB public schools. went to the catholic school on west broadway and eventually to maria regina in uniondale.
No, the opposite.... we grew up in Suffolk (Deer Park) and we re always at Robert Moses or Babylon township beaches.... moved to S. FL as a kid, then moved back for 11th& 12th grade (Hills East Dix Hills) then went back to FL for college and never left. Brother NOW lives in Island Park... cool location.... aside from the constant NE'er street flooding
I THINK this was the final take home tally for the 5 of us: 38 Triggers, 15 Vermillions (the little pink guys), 1 almaco jack, and that 29" Mutton Snapper Prob threw back at least that amount of short triggers, and Amberjack or 2, and random bullshit (sharks etc) we were in 150+ feet (so no cobia)
Maybe I can take up fishing especially on Sundays as it would take me away from watching pathetic Jet football
I got another trip planned for 11/16-17. Hopefully it will be smooth seas and the Cod will be hungry. I know its early for Cod but they are biting, just not in really large numbers. I'll top off my Sea Bass count for the year and then switch over.
