Wow! Small world ain't it. Didn't realize they were in both areas.. If those guys down in Key West are anything like their counterparts up in Gloucester, they must have legions of happy customers. Like I said, we were well taken care of and the Capt. put us on the fish all day. We'll probably head back up that way next spring but they definetly made me a fan of the longer range trips. I'll be doing a few of those this upcoming fall season and a Tilefish trip is now officially on my bucket list.

Oh, and thanks for telling me what those lil red fishys were too. Orange Roughy's.. Gotta tell Wifey when she gets home.

Uhhhh..... 15 hr bottom fishing trip yest.
took awhile and ALOT of searching, but it was a late day bite. We didnt get the mangos fired up like reports were earlier in the week, but we got some fish. Triggers, vermillions.... and possibly the biggest seabass I've ever caught (ate a 9" frozen boston makerel) in summertime o_O
Last spot was loaded in big red snapper (got SMOKED by one on the 114H)... too bad we couldnt keep em
snapper "mini season" next two weekends.... hopefully I can get back on em, but I'm sure my charter buddies will be booked. we'll see

Sounds like a great trip. Not the usual drop and reel I guess. What depth were you in? Braid or Mono?l Details my good man...Need more details after you rest up.. :)

Headed back out on Saturday. Different boat than my usual. Figure different boat? We'll be fishing different waters than the ones all the head boats rotate thru. Going out on the Voyager out of Pt. Pleasant.

Prob wouldve got more, but we kinda missed the early bite.... halfway to the inlet and my buddy realized he forgot his book of #s in the truck.... then we unsuccessfully wasted time trying to net livebait

    Yes, usual drop a reel
    depths between 120-150'
Mostly 65-80# braid (pulled some hooks on some nice ones :( ) 12-16oz leads... good amount of current

    I'm sore

    I bet you are... :)

Can't wait for Saturday's trip. Sea Bass and Ling on the target list but hopefully we'll be far enough offshore to get some Cod and perhaps Pollock. Just the idea of fishing different water is exciting! #CantWait

Red Snapper "mini season" this weekend and next. .... hopefully I'll be gettin on 'em
but it's a week late. The opportunity to add 4 mules to the bag of fish we had would've been pretty nice. (we let some 15#+++ go)

I thought they had relaxed the limits on Red Snappers. I was hoping one day to get back down that way. Perhaps even the GoM. Still on my bucket list! Knowing you, I'm sure you'll find a way to get on a Snapper trip before the mini-season is over. Why so much regulation? Are Snappers endangered?

    Theyre relaxed in the Gulf....
Here? who knows. It's stupid. it's been total closure for 2 years, and before then it was 2 weekend "mini seasons" (one was a NE'er washout)

To be honest there's so many in NE FL.... it's hard to NOT catch one. Maybe because further south they dont really get them and use those #s to regulate the whole coast?
I'm usually pretty conservation minded and would be fine with seasonal closures (spawning seasons) but It's retarded. We cant keep snapper, but we can keep grouper, but I'd say we catch 20-1 snapper/grouper.

Dayum... I guess they're serious about rebuilding the stock..for the commercial guys.. I see a lot of short snapper up here in the fish counter. Pisses me off no end with all the short fish commercial guys get away with selling.

    Yep it's bullshit
Those fish prob come from the Gulf or GA... when we could keep em, 20" was the minimum.

Up here, commercial fishermen damn near wiped out the Fluke, Whiting and are doing serious damage to the Porgy's too. Because of climate change, the waters off jersey have warmed to the point that Blues and Stripers only make quick stops now on the way to and from Long Island Sound and Cape Cod. They're here for perhaps 2 weeks and then they vanish because the bunker also are on the move to colder waters. Fluke bag limits are down to 3 fish. Whiting are just about impossible to find. Porgy limits are still 50 at 9". At the rate they're being harvested, that will change within 3 yrs or so. Sea Bass are being seriously regulated now as well with mini seasons in effect. Bigger bag limits for them are only in the Spring, fall and early winter now. Winter flounder down to a 2 fish limit.

In the spring there's about as much whiting in the surf as you want down here (granted theyre pretty small)
