I'm about the same. Need different setups for fluking - seabass, striper live lining, striper trolling, tuna jigging, trolling, giant tuna, wahoo, etc. I find however that I'm getting more utility from my tuna jigging rod and reel which I use for striper, tuna, seabass, blackfish.. Its got a Fin Nor 20 with multi color 60 lb braid. I'm not one to use lightweight tackle to have more "sport" with the fish. I will use a crane as long as I get the fish on the boat. ,
Ha, I'm the opposite.... my little Seigler SGN has made me a believer. 40lb fish with a reel that fits in the palm of my hand you better not start "slow-pitch jigging" or everything will change..... The Penn Senators rarely get touched anymore. My new quest is a sailfish on a topwater plug....
My wife would say too many. I'd have to count, but at least 7 freshwater rods. 6 Deep Drop blades, 6 heavy SW, 5 Medium SW off the top of my head... I'm waiting until the Christmas season begins to put my unused stuff on the Net for sale.
Uh...no. My neighbor has about 100 rod and reel setups hanging in the ceiling of his garage. He said it was due to the different uses for them. I said "OK what is that one for?" pointing to a miscellaneous rod/reel combo. He said "Oh that's a friends rod". I said "that's nice your fixing it for a friend". He said "No, If a friend comes fishing I give him that rod".
I get it. My Cousin decided he wanted to go inshore fishing on a headboat so I set him up with a Penn combo. No way was he getting anything other than a rig I could afford to lose. Ended up giving it to him as I didn't use it anyway.
Ha, same here, I have a few combos to have around for when my brother visits or I bring people on the boat (especially younger guys.. "What are you doing with that?" (pointy to janky reel with shitty line in back of his truck "I've caught some good fish on this rod"... "Not on my boat" lol).... most of those are my older stuff that i've upgraded but have also bought a few 2nd hand ones for that purpose ( I should liquidate some... although they can come in handy as "backups" when the "go-to" has an issue and its a day to go fish)
I owned and operated a furniture restoration business for 25 years. Many times a customer would offer me old rods and reels. Some I bought. I just can't part with them. They are wooden octagonal with tied on fucked up glass lined guides. The reels are old Oceans, etc. I look at them and think if they could only speak what tales they would tell.
Last day to comment on this insanity!! @Cman68 do you want to catch another FL snapper? https://www.regulations.gov/document/NOAA-NMFS-2024-0107-0001/comment
So, they're blaming recreational fisherman for the Red Snapper situation. Really helps to own the right politician doesn't it. Same shit up here. All you have to do is pay a visit to your local supermarket and look at all the short fish in the display counter.
"I have been an avid fisherman for my whole life, and for the past 25+ years an avid offshore fisherman. While being a fisherman that could be considered "conservation minded" I truly cannot comprehend the logic (or lack of) directed towards this policy.... It's a blend of flawed data, and tunnel vision. The status of Red Snapper is so strong, that I believe that it's reached the levels of the predation of other species by ARS. Other species we used to catch are now replaced by snapper (ex: black sea bass) You simply cannot avoid snapper if you try (and I've been trying for years) I've even caught them trolling surface baits and throwing topwater plugs. Handling snapper sensibly is not that hard. Mandate all bottom fishing vessels have a descending device rigged and available at all times (have a rod ready to go, I’m sure most of us have an old Senator in the garage). Close snapper during SPAWNING season (Im sure you at least have proper science for this?) , but keep it available at least 1 per person / 4 vessel for the other 6+ months of the year. The one day “Snapper “derby” season was as mindless as it gets. An attempt to throw a bone to appease the masses, creating unsafe situations and false FOMO panic. If “Conservation” was really the mindset, why would you do this in the PEAK OF SPAWNING SEASON?!? It seems so ridiculous to the point where it’s making it appear that hidden agendas must be involved. Recreational fishing is HUGE industry, regionally and Nationally in this country. Closing fishing cripples MILLIONS (if not billions) annually) Is that your plan? I’m not a biologist, just someone who tries to use pragmatic common sense, and I hope you do the same."
I doubt the comment even gets noticed... they conveniently kept that docket under the radar until the last minute. Less than a month of public notice, and I only found out on the last day thanks to a friend (granted I don't mess with any "social" media.... unless you count this site)
I use one all the time. 16" sealing bar for bigger bags. Vac-Pak-it 16SS I got mine at the Restaurant Store.
Of course, how can you not? I have a "Foodsaver" is an old OG one.... and is nearing the end of it's lifespan, but its ok for now
@Cman68 This deal is too good to pass up.... (and NO I do NOT need anymore lol) but my best ever jig is the "stepped" slowpitch one... I wish I saw this BEFORE I bought a bunch of shit for my brother for xand some stuff for me lol) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B078NR3F1H/ref=twister_dp_update?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B078NH91K7/ref=twister_dp_update?ie=UTF8&redirect=true&th=1&psc=1
I've always had pretty good luck with Ocean Cat SPJ's. Got a shitload of them already though especially in the 100-220gm range.
