Oh yeah... Big ones. They will pull hard on the way up and ruin almost every rig they hit. When you try to de-hook them by hand, they wrap around your forearm and squeeze. Damn things are almost as big a PITA as Dogfish. Maybe its a Jersey thing as I haven't seen any come over the rail up in Gloucester, MA. or Block Is, RI.
Unagi which is grilled eel is delicious! However, they do not eat Conger Eels. They eat a fresh water variety they get in Japan. Apparently the eels are high in Iron and good for you. They actually have a National Unagi day in Japan. The Eel is dipped in a sauce made from soy sauce, mirin, brown sugar, garlic, sometimes ginger. The eel is dipped in the sauce cooked until the sauce caramelizes then is dipped in the sauce again and cooked again. This is done sometimes up to 7 times. The result is served on a Donburi bowl of rice with more sauce poured over it. The smell is crazy good and the Unagi restaurants blow their grilling smoke into the street to entice customers.
I'm talking all those little shops where they wrapped your meal in someone's orders. I learned that with enough SoJu and soy sauce, you can eat damn near anything!
Fished the Exclusion Zone yesterday. No love from Charlie. Caught 4 bluefish trolling wide trackers. Shit loads ofTuna Chicks and a few Whates were there.
Well if misery loves company.... fished the Old School Kingfish shootout yesterday..... 700 boats total. Fished with my 3 buddies who are all professional charter captains. ZERO kingfish, a shark and a giant Jack Crevalle that used up ALOT of time. the day before one of my buddies had a 45lber (approx) on one of his charters... That probably wouldve taken the 1st place Yellowfin bay boat. DOH Then ran from to the marina to my weekend job... long day
Whoa that is a ton of boats! Any Kingfish weighed? We are in the Manasquan River Marlin Tuna Club Bluefin Open. We whiffed on our fishing day. Leader is 224 lb beast. 6 fish weighed 75 boats.
Headed out on 6/13 (Thurs) for my 2nd Tile trip (2.5 days). This time I think the boat will be headed south probably off VA. Leaving 2hrs earlier than usual for a canyon run. Got Macks, Blue and Squid for the trip. Might bring some salmon too but I think I got most bases covered. Hopefully we won't need 5lb lead to hold bottom.
Save the salmon for your grill and bring a jig rod... and your big spinner with a popper plug or two in case some tunas make an appearance
Fishing boundary was within 3 miles (state waters) between Fernandina to the north, and Ponce inlet to the south. We ran south.... which apparently was the wrong direction. Most of all the big fish weighed were all caught at the northern end, and alot of "pros" also got skunked as well... oh well.

Shimano has a winner with the Talaveras. Just in case I ever get to go after swords, I got a Shimano Terez BW MH blade. fits perfecting into the Talavera base.
yeah, I already had a big spin rod version for several years for my 8000 baitrunner. I scored these trolling rods for super cheap... kinda sloppy with the resin work but the price was like walmart rod prices they were like 65% off... and they seem nice. Paired w/ tld 20s (with gomexus handles) to troll bigger live baits.
We fished the BHMTC Tuna tournament. First day we boated a 28.7 lb Yellowfin…I guess that’s a rat. Yesterday we caught a 103” Giant Bluefin Tuna! Had to release it due to the quota being reached. Took 3 hours to get to the boat. We didn’t have a harpoon. Wouldn’t want that fish in the boat anyway. It was a fucking monster!
At the Toms Canyon 86 miles out. Hit a Joe Shute rigged Bally Black and Purple Way way back 250 yds. Fish of a lifetime!
