yep. They catch more muttons down south than we do (in close....) we have to run far for them, and it's kind of a new phenomena up here (climate change). We have all the Red Snapper (in shallower) but they're "Endangered", so we have to run out past all those to get ones we can keep..... got him on a 200G jig

Yep.. Up here, the commercial guys all own the politicians so they can keep any and everything they find in their nets. OTOH, they'll line us up against a wall if we go over our limits. Life ain't fair sometimes.

    yep...

mailman just dropped off a bunch of 200G jigs.... needed some heavier small profile fattys, and these look legit, and should whack the fish. same as name brand ones without the packaging for half the price.... also got a popper plug (but it's HUGE.. lol)

Nice thing about being retired, I have time now to prep for the upcoming fishing season. I've premade plenty inshore, midshore and offshore rigs all in separate snack bags and labeled. Now when I get tangled, I'll just cut the line, snap on another rig and put the damaged one back in the bag instead of wasting time while the mate untangles the lines. Pulley Ridge rigs are different than what we use up here too. Trunk line is 60-100lb test and the branch lines are 24". Boat only allows 2 branches so that's a relief. Up here, the branch lines are between 40-80lb because of the current and shorter branch lines are used. I found some sleeve swivels that do 40-60lb Mono and Flouro leader too. Lighter the line, the less weight I have to use to get to the bottom especially to depths between 300-1000ft. Be it Florida or Jersey, a chicken rig is a chicken rig. :)

I've read that at night, the AP goes into shallower water to anchor up. The nite bite is totally different. More of an SPJ/Bait effort than deep dropping. I'll be ready with my new early Father's Day gift from Wifey! Yes, I've been good!!!

Been on a small boat run for the ages the past 3 days..... Sun-Mon-Tues. Crushed the Cobia.. Multiple Keepers (over 36" at the fork) on the slowpitch. I'm stoked and sore... probably need to get back to work to pay for this stuff lol

Nice Filets I bet! Sounds like a great trip. Still waiting for the spring weather transition to settle in. Several days of sun followed by Several days of rain. All set though. 4/30 kicks off my fishing season with a Deep Drop Tilefish run. 1.5 days at sea.

Personally my favorite eating fish.... Whitest meat but texture of steak. Their main diet is bluecrabs.... and these guys had like 20 in their bellies.

The prime cobia run is very short and I got lucky with calm seas at the right time.(small boat = small opportunities)... totally missed it last year, so I'm making up for lost time ;)

My brother is scrambling to get his boat back in the water up there for the spring stripers...

The Striper run has begun in earnest up here. I'm waiting on the Bluefish/Mackerel run to begin as both make great Tilefish/Grouper/Snapper baits. Got several offshore deep drop runs scheduled before Pulley Ridge.
