shuffled some work around to free up today as it'll be the only "small boat friendly" day for a week or so.... went solo. stuck 2 decent kingfish. which seems minor, but 1 guy driving the boat while trolling 3 lines... then gaffing the fish
Went out yesterday morning in Wickford Harbor. Super slow but I did catch two dink weakfish. I had to Google the pictures because I had never caught one before. Also caught a nice size porgie, a short fluke and a 16 inch bluefish.
My Saturday trip started out soggy with the rainstorm but it cleared later in the day. Crowded headboats aren't much fun but wifey and I managed to put a few Porgies and SB's in the cooler.
That's awesome that your wife likes to fish. Mine will, but gun to her head she couldn't care less. Is SB striped bass?
When I was in tech school in Mississippi I had a guy from Oklahoma in my class that was like the standard bearer of the Coors Light Army. He was a total goober whose feet sweated so bad that he always had white salt deposits on the outside of his leather combat boots on marching days.
Ha.... That swill used to be the only thing my best friend would drink. When we first became friends were at some "semi formal" (for us, it meant a shirt with buttons and a collar ) graduation party that reserved a bar..... I was only 20 or 21 at the time, so broke, but I was faking it that night. "Hey man, want a beer?" "Yeah, Coors Light"... "I'm buying... whatever you want".... "Coors Light" .... "Seriously, I'm willing to buy whatever you want and that's your choice?!?!" It took 25 years, but now outside of football games and nascar the guy is drinking IPAs....
Time flies! 2 weeks out from my first ever Tuna Trip! We'll be on a headboat so I imagine popping isn't an option. This will be the gear I'm bringing for the trip: Trolling: Phenix AXIS MH 7'2" w/ Shimano TLD 2 30A reel spooled with 400yds 100# braid backing, 150yds 65# mono topshot and 50yds 60# flouro. Chunking: Daiwa WN Proteus 7'6" XHF w/ AVET HWX 5/2 Raptor spooled with 400yds 80# Braid backing, 150yds 80# topshot and 60# flouro. I have a Daiwa H spinning setup for Mahi if there's any around. Well, there it is. Let me know if I'm good. The target will be Yellowfin Tuna and Mahi if any are there.
NICE! go get um champ (but are you missing the game?) I'd bring the popping rod too... never know + plus mahi attack lures like bluefish
Well, its looking like Mama Nature is stepping in. Coastal Storm for this weekend probably will shut down my Tuna trip.
That sucks.... hard to plan out anything offshore in the fall.... Big 2 day outdoor concert here in town starting friday (Black Keys headlining friday)... and said storm develops here (supposed to have gale force NE winds...)
yeah.. I'll take the refund and plan the trip sooner in '24. I still got several trips planned for the fall. November mostly so maybe I get 1 out of the 3 in.
I was hoping to head up there for another shot at a bluefin with my brother.... but I doubt it comes together as windows are getting smaller, especially on a small boat
