(AP)?The Steelers snapped the Patriots? spell over them with a plan that has worked all season: knock ?em down, steal the ball and keep them from gaining yards. Pittsburgh?s top-ranked defense got rolling in the second half, leading the Steelers to a 33-10 win on a cold and rainy Sunday, only their second victory in eight games against New England. ?We heard a lot of talk about it being a rivalry,? Pittsburgh coach Mike Tomlin said. ?It hasn?t been much of a rivalry until you win some. That?s what we talked about coming up here.? The Steelers outscored the Patriots 23-0 in the second half when they had all five of their takeaways and four of their five sacks and gave up 81 yards to a team that had gained more than 500 in each of its two previous games. ?They had to start passing the ball and we didn?t have to sit back and try and guess what they were doing,? said James Harrison, who sacked Matt Cassel twice, forcing fumbles. ?We just pinned our ears back and went at them.? The Steelers (9-3) got two scoring passes from Ben Roethlisberger and four field goals from Jeff Reed and lead Baltimore by one game in the AFC North. The Patriots (7-5) gained only 267 yards and remained a game behind the New York Jets in the AFC East. Both teams had 19 first downs, but the Steelers had an edge of 10 minutes, 10 seconds in time of possession.
Lots of people were calling for his head all of last season as well, and it even started back in 06'. For someone to say that people calling for Sutton's firing is a new thing is just plain ignorant. He should go back to coaching linebackers - He was actually good at that. You ATTACK an offense. If they perform perfectly and just manage to get one or two big plays off, so be it. They'll be hurting the entire time and giving everything either a second thought or none at all. You lose? Well at least you played a good physical game. This crap of soft zones and no real blitzing, with the situations where you actually do blitz being obvious? It's bullshit. I remember games in 06' where you would have these insane blitz packages, all these different looks, one down lineman, SIX down linemen, with you never being able to tell who was coming at you and from where. It caused shitloads of problems for offenses. We did a little of it in 07' and the opposition still never had it figured out. Why is that gone? Why did we remove the only shit in our defense that was successful? THAT is why most people on this board call for Sutton's head on a daily basis and have been for years. He's smart enough to come up with the schemes, we've seen them before, so we know he is. He just lacks the balls to actually implement them. Make him a defensive assistant, keep him around in some capacity - but don't keep him as our coordinator.
Sutton gives me the impression of a man who is completely unaware that there are actually other football games going on in which the defense plays to attack.
at this point....Jenn Sterger would be a better DC than Sutton.......dammit, we've only played 1 quarter...and the nausea is already settling in.
This Hill kid is amazing!! I mean look at him march right down the field. Looks like he will continue the 49er tradition...Montana, Young, Hill....3 hall of famers. Cant blame Sutton for not stopping this game breaker!!
