Gates was decent in the preseason. But Quincy has more upside and he'll give us whatever Gates would've given us this year.
Gates can't play. He had his chance against the eagles and he bobbled balls repeatedly. If he could play he would have beaten out Salas or Hakim given that he provided much needed speed. He's a practice squad candidate right now... Not someone we can rely upon
Let's not sleep on Enunwa. On one hand I wouldn't be surprised if he goes to ps after we make some moves but it'll be good to see him develop on the team. His speed/agility isn't the best, id say it's mediocre, but he's got good hands and is very strong. His success in the NFL depends on how we use him. He's 6'2 220 but very tough and strong. So he's definitely a big guy but he's not in same vein of the 6'4+ guys. These 6'0-6'3 size receivers haven't been as good in the NFL as you'd think. Teams usually try to make them into deep threats or redzone targets and it hasn't translated, they just don't have the reach. What we need to do, and I have hope for since we have MM, is give this guy the ball on short passes and screens and just let him plow through the defense.
sounds like Amaro's job. hmm, the WR corps seems a little crowded now with 7 guys… i wonder if he'll even DRESS most games unless somebody gets hurt? I don't think he's a ST player like Hakim or Salas, so the odds are against in him in that regard. he may "redshirt" for most of the year, like Aboushi did.
I have GOT to weigh in on this thread...especially considering that Clyde Gates is getting "Jerry Rice" love. Whewwww...who is this guy with his nose up Gates' jock? Really? Clearly he and I weren't watching the same games last year. Gates blows as much monkey chunks as does Hill! I'm glad they both are pounding pavement. Go drop passes on somebody else's team. At least Enunwa offers up some shred of the "unknown!" Of course, I suspect that Q.E. will be a practice squad guy once it is all said and done from picking up other teams' flotsam and jetsam. But, you never know. The only thing I DO know is neither one of those guys is welcome on any team I root for! All in all, I like what I see. The overall best players and/or players that have shown the most promise are on this team in some fashion. We didn't keep 3 QB's just to keep 3 QB's and we don't have 4 RB's just to have 4... Let's see how we look around Monday or Tuesday before we allow our panties to get in a bunch. I have GOT to believe that John is keeping a close eye on the CB market...that is where we really need some help. Speaking of that, thank GOD he got rid of Patterson. It sends the right message to the team. I don't know what that fool was thinking...calling out the Jets' management like that...but he can kiss his career goodbye for the most part if you ask me...
This is a sad time of year with bubble guys making the 53 only to be cut the next day to make room for some other team's cast offs. At least 2-3 bubble guys who are beyond happy at the moment won't be on the team by the end of this week. Seems to happen every year.
And that's the way it should be for a team in year 2 of a rebuild. We are arguing Enunwa over Gates? Are you kidding me?! Some people really will bitch about anything. The only two players you could make a case for are Edds and Miles... two young, cheap guys that stuck out amongst their competition. Even then... I'm not all that heartbroken.
He hustled and was around the ball on a couple of occassions earlier in the pre-season but the Eagles exposed him as not able to set the edge and (lacking he-man strength) who eventually would get pushed downstream on runs to his side.
I think waiver claims start in about 20 minutes or so, not sure how long the awarding process takes. I'm guessing by 3:00 we'll have an idea if we've claimed anyone. _
Enu was sidelined with that hip injury and the Jets did not want to rush him and why his visibility wasn't very high. The guy racked up 1,500 yards, 12 TDs and was Gator Bowl MVP his senior year. Who knows how he'll pan out but fwiw, here's a post of mine from a month ago while up at Cortland where I got to see Enu (finally) in uniform ("Official TC Thread"). The guy did make an impression: Misc: CB Ras-I Dowling, big in person. Rookie WR Quincy Enunwa (Nebraska, hip) finally in uniform - impressively built. CB Jeremy Reeves is a small but fun-to-watch feisty little dude. Jalen Saunders is tiny as well. 1. CBs run defense drill (pitch to RB around end, CB has to fight off block to make stop): - Enunwa lays the wood on Ellis Lankster. ^^^ Note that was the very 1st thing that came to mind and that I posted regarding that particular position drill--the dude stood out. Ellis Lankster (who I like and who himself enjoyed a feisty, physical run-in with Steven Hill at up at Cortland in the previous [2012] year's camp) not only got his head handed to him by Enu, he (Ellis) uncharacteristically bitched and moaned about the 'rook' being a little too serious (that drill was right in front of us). If nothing else, I like the idea of a specimen potentially rounding into form vs. a guy (Clyde) whose every-once-in-a-while ceiling I've seen. jmo.
My biggest thing is... we know nothing about Enunwa other than what he showed in college and that he has some size. We already know what Gates is. He's been a pro for a handful of years now. We know that he stinks. He's a fast guy who can't run routes, drops balls and is unimpressive physically. Why in god's name would Idzik keep Gates over Enunwa? The better question is... how is this even a topic of conversation?!
