Remember that bailey with all his NFL service is pretty expensive ($955k/year) and he's not a long-solution only a fill the hole for the year kind of player. If Rob has a player that's almost as good as bailey is now, could develop and is cheap (under $500k), it makes perfect sense for the Rob to cut him and the jets to claim him. Also, Bailey is probably worth more on a team with good safeties to cover go routes where he may not have the speed anymore to stay with his man.
The Seahawks, 49ers and Panthers all use the read option up to a half dozen times a game. It's just another look to take advantage of their QB's mobility and force teams to game plan for an additional scheme. The read option isn't going anywhere.
Well you may get your wish with Daniels: Seahawks waived DT Jimmy Staten and QB B.J. Daniels. A fifth-round pick, Staten couldn't crack the Seahawks' loaded defensive line. He'll be stashed on the practice squad if he clears waivers. With the release of Daniels, Seattle is going with only Tarvaris Jackson behind Russell Wilson. http://www.rotoworld.com/playernews/nfl/football-player-news/
We just cut a fast 6'+ receiver with suspect hands and you want us to cut our return guy for a fast 6'+ receiver with suspect hands
Signing a guy to a rookie minimum is different than drafting a guy 2nd round. So my answer to that is yes.
so do drafted players count for more roster space than undrafted ones or did we cut hill just because of his salary which we have to pay anyway?
I'll like to use this thread, rather than start a new one unnecessarily, to add my congratulations to JI and the coaching staff for making the tough cuts, cuts needed to be made and long over due. IMO were based entirely on performance, current and future contributions to the team, depth, youth, and not biased by long term wishful thinking that some of the same old issues would finally get resolved. Hope we continue to improve our roster in areas of need, accept our mistakes, and not look back at another year of Gates, Hill, and non team players like Paterson.
Meh. He showed he is nothing without brees. I would rather see enunwa and saunders get more reps then bring in meachum
Not sure if this has been mentioned yet but I'm very impressed with how the roster was constructed in terms of positions and their awarded slots. For instance, most teams keep 3 QBs and 5 RBs, but the Jets decided to only keep 2 and 4, respectively, and awarded good play from players like Barnes, only adding to the roster depth. This shows Idzik sticking to his 'competition' and 'the best players will play' mantra. A 6th defensive lineman is more valuable to this team, in his eyes, than picking between Green/Richardson at RB for example. I feel like most organizations take the other approach. I found this to be refreshing. Then again the rosters are not 100% finalized so this can still be tweaked.
"This smacks of Idzik trying to protect his drafting record..." http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york-jets/post/_/id/42354/new-york-jets-cut-down-analysis Great.....so Idzik is keeping his crappy draft picks at the expense of the team, to try to protect his draft record..... That's the only way to explain his keeping Quincy Enunwa, who did nothing in the preseason, over Clyde Gates, who not only looked great but played well in the regular season for us last year, and is young....but he wasn't acquired by Idzik so he's a goner.
Enunwa has great potential. Reilly has great potential. George has great potential. All of these guys have promising college metric scores. We have seen the ceiling for guys like McIntyre and Gates. They are nothing special.
What a catch! Omg, that catch was absolutely incredible. How did I miss that?! Jesus Idzik, stop trying to protect your name and be a man about it! Fuckin John Idzik. All he cares about is himself. Bastard
