Hm. But honestly all that is just based on the fact or assumption that old players slow down and aren't as productive anymore, the way they used to be. In that case age doesn't matter. A 25 year old player would have to go trough the same stuff. And vice versa if you have a 40 year old QB who plays at a higher level than a 25 year old QB the older guy will get the job. In a perfect world teams would obviously prefer younger guys because they last longer and usually they make less. But that's maybe where this discrimination stems from. If you only last 1-2 more years and you make twice as much as some young buck then of course the team will go with the younger option. Lower your salary and be more productive and the team will pick the older guy instead. But old players just want more money, they do less. They have less value.
