Brady wasn't a developed QB his first several seasons. Brady had the advantage of sitting most of his rookie season, only appearing in 3 games and starting 1, but he was a much lower-ranked QB coming into the NFL out of college. There was more consistency there than I remember in who his receivers were and there was a lot better depth, but he didn't have any really great WRs or TEs his first 3 seasons, and he had to adjust to a pretty large number of receivers due to injuries. Following is a list of his targets in 2001- 2003 and how many games each played in that season. 2001 WR - Troy Brown (16), David Patten (16), Charles Johnson (14), Fred Coleman (7), Terry Glenn (4), Torrance Small (3), Curtis Jackson (2), Bert Emmanuel (2) TE - Jermaine Wiggins (16), Rod Rutledge (15) 2002 WR - David Patten (16), Troy Brown (14), Deion Branch (13), David Givens (12), Donald Hayes (12), Fred Coleman (1) TE - Christian Fauria (16), Cameron Cleeland (12), Fred Baxter (1) 2003 WR - Deion Branch (15), Bethel Johnson (15), David Givens (13), Troy Brown (12), David Patten (6), Dedric Ward (4), JJ Stokes (2) TE - Christian Fauria (16), Daniel Graham (14), Fred Baxter (12), Brian Kinchen (2), Sean McDermott (1) I think the lack of quality and the lack of depth are bigger problems for Sam than the number of different WRs he's having to adjust to. I agree that Sam has probably gone through two years of terrible coaching, and definitely had bad luck with injuries, a shitty OL, a completely depleted roster, and not even a good collegiate WR corps. I'm not arguing that it's fine for a QB entering his third year as a pro to have to rely on PS WRs to run accurate routes and get open. If I was, I wouldn't have complained about JD not drafting another WR this year, and wouldn't be clamoring for him to draft two WRs in 2021. I am totally unhappy with the WR corps. We have one piece in Crowder, and may have a couple of pieces in Mims and Perriman. We have RBs that are good receivers and we have a pretty good and improving TE corps.
I'm gonna start working out again just in case my number gets called. I was quite the WR in high school some 30 years ago.
If you can drop wide open throws down the sideline, then we can definitely find a place for you. Clyde Gates played 17 games over two seasons for us. Jeff Smith was invited to camp after last season.
I’m 6’4” I’m legitimately thinking about tossing my name in the hat. Don’t ask me my 40 time but that’s fine as long as I’m along side Moncrief.
The WR situation is infuriating...however at least I see a GM feverishly working to remedy it. Chris Hogan and Donte Moncrief are not the Marks brothers but Joe is leaving no stone unturned in his effort to get our receivers to an acceptable level Really feel for Sam here.
We're not looking for elite talent at this point. We know you'll run through walls for Gase, and that's what counts.
You know the offense is in shambles when an undrafted QB turned WR goes out for 2 weeks and it’s a huge blow.
They were also a decade ahead of the NFL in taking the West Coast Offense to an absolute extreme by essentially creating the dink and dunk offense the leagues never seen before. They were running the wide receiver screen (corners ten yards off - throw the ball right to the split end for 5 yards every time), again, about a decade before the rest of the league caught on. He also had only three offensive line changes in his first three years, including one in his first two years and the best defense in the league for that three of four run, along with the best coach of all time. He also had the third leading rusher in 2004. I get the comparison you're trying to make, but trying to factor out the rest of the situations makes your point kind of silly.
According to social media, you can watch Jets camp today starting at 12:15 on the Jets social media platforms. https://www.newyorkjets.com/news/5-things-to-watch-in-jets-green-white-practice-at-metlife-stadium I was never one for watching practices or training camp, but in case anyone wants to the link is above.
Never heard of the bottom three. Only 2/32 teams fans has ever even heard of the name "Berrios." A few weeks for dehydration issues?! Seems like those are usually resolved with one IV...
