That garbage offsides replay thing swung Game 3 in the Florida/Islanders series. Hickey scored the gamewinner in OT and he admitted it after the game
refs in Anaheim repeatedly screwing the home team. Fans are furious. Lots of ticky-tack calls against the Ducks. Meanwhile, James Neal took a hack at Anaheim's goalie, Gibson, after the play was blown dead, and no call. Ducks going down 2-0 in the series Almost impossible to receover after dropping the first two at home. Predators/Sharks next round.
It was offsides, nothing to complain about, they replayed it and it was obvious he was in the zone before the puck came completely over. I'm more upset about the lack of good officiating, on legitimate penalties it's been bad period. Guys getting hacked, interfered with, blatantly and nothing being called. The Rangers had a 2 on 1 the other day and Kreider was hooked and slowed down as he was streaking into the offensive zone and nothing was called.
It was not a garbage call, the replay showed his left skate was about a foot into the offensive zone and the puck was not completely over the blue line. Pretty straight forward to me.
Yes, I know, I was referring to the thing I had just posted about. Taking away goals after the fact due to nitpicking offsides on replays is absurd and quite frankly, garbage. Sure it was technically offsides but it was not called as such, and using replay for offsides is horrible. Imagine if baseball put in replay for balls and strikes where you could challenge after the at bat. Guy hits a walkoff homer and the other manager figures he might as well challenge. They review it and say ball 1 was strike 1 by an inch, therefore we're nullifying the homerun.
Oh, ok, you just don't like the challenge portion. Get rid of it period! I don't like too much technology in games either, but honestly, I would hate for my team to lose a series or the Stanley Cup for that matter, because a ref got it wrong. JMO What is your take on the playoffs so far?
I don't mind challenges, I just can't stand them on offsides. We were just posting about this. It would be one thing if a goal were scored against the rules, by a guy kicking it in or interfering with the goalie. This thing about the offsides (which often occurs a minute+ before the goal) is ridiculous. Common sense, but the NHL doesn't have any.
There is absolutely no doubt that challenge changed the game and likely the series in Brooklyn. It is driving me nuts. I hope the NHL realizes this and makes offsides something that can't be challenged in 2016-17.
the Blackhawks Blues game was almost a mirror image of the Islanders Panthers game....just a couple days before. Blues scored to go up 3-0, it was reviewed then disallowed due to an irrelevant microsecond offsides. then the Blackhawks got a pp and scored, making it a 2 goal swing in less than a minute. huge momentum change which decided the game. i agree with you, there is no need to be reviewing offsides. especially considering refs get those calls right the overwhelming majority of the time when it's clear.
yeah that's when I posted about it originally. After the Blues/Blackhawks games. When will the NHL get a clue? When a SCF Game 7 is decided by this? Offsides should not be reviewable. Period.
That's s bad comparison. In hockey they don't allow you to stop a play in action to call for a replay; you have to wait until the stop in action. In this instance it was after a goal. It's the only sensible course of action. Baseball has a similar replay rule where you can check if the defense was pulled off a bag or not and there was an out. Mets got bit by that in the playoffs. If you could challenge balls and strikes there would be no need to wait until a subsequent pitch; there is a break in each play after the pitch to do it.
I was just coming here and thinking to myself "Ovechkin scores the Cup winner!!!!" three minutes later: goal disallowed because backstrom's left skate was a millimeter into the zone before the puck crossed over the blue line, Capitals lose Game 7 in OT
I think the Sabre fans probably wished the challenge rule was in play when Hull was in the crease for the game winning goal and the refs did not make the right call to waive off the goal which allowed the stars to win the Cup.
Bellmarre should get 10 games for that hit. Intentional or not , that looked bad. Once again the Fly-Gal's gooning it up when they are trailing.
Capitals run it up on the Flyers with some late goals. I hope some Flyers get some suspensions so they miss the beginning of next season.
