A point to remember is division ties are broken first so a third place team in the AFC East can not beat second place Baltimore if they finish with the same record which is where the Ravens will finish in the AFC North. A Baltimore loss on Saturday night and the Jets still control their own destiny to get into the playoffs. It effectively makes the Seattle game moot as to whether they get into the playoffs or not. It effects their seeding and whether they win the division but not whether they can get in or not. They can lose to Seattle and if the Jets beat Miami than they are in. They can win the division if they lose to Seattle and the Pats drop one of two and they beat the Dolphins. Under no circumstances can they win the division if they lose to Miami. It also doesnt matter if Miami or New England win this week or not. If both the Pats and Fish lose and the Jets beat Seattle it still comes down to whether or not the Jets beat Miami to get into the playoffs. If that scenario happens this week and the following week the Jets lose to Miami then they are out of the playoffs no matter what happens in the NE/Buf game in Week 17.
This thing is great. It says as long as the Cowboys beat Balt at home on Sat, the Jets get in the playoffs with a win vs. Miami, even if they lose to Seattle.
I believe if the Jets beat Miami there is no scenario where they do not make the playoffs. Whoops I'll take that back. They lose out on the playoffs beating Miami while both New England and Baltimore go 2-0. This is ridiculously like 2002 at this point.
I looked at various scenarios, But it does appear us beating the better teams will give us an advantage over Baltimore in strength of victory. (win pct of teams we beat) If it has to come to that. The main thing there is that Baltimore has to lose on of its remaining games. Dallas more likely, but Jacksonville knocks them down with conference record altogether. The other part is that New England and Miami can win, as long as we beat Miami in week 17. We'll know all we need to know after this week. But of course. it still comes down the keep it simple stupid method. Just win and it doesn't matter what any other team does. Gotta like that scenario in WEEK 16!
We don't miss the playoffs if we go 2-0 at this point. We don't make the playoffs if we lose a game and both New England and Baltimore go 2-0.
This is a post from the New York Jets official forum (please don't ban me for this) I hope we run the table, but the defense, coaching, and playcalling needs to be fixed. GO JETS!
LOL, why would you get banned for this?? This is a great post because it, once and for all, answers all the playoff scenario questions people have. (Hopefully, it will put an end to all the repetitive playoff scenario threads - this one post, answers any questions a Jet fan would or could have regarding the Jets and their playoff possibilities.) There is a similar one on NFL.com which breaks it down really nicely but this is perfect.
Yep. I'm looking at the Seahawks game this sunday as a playoff game. If (when) we win that game, then I will look at the dolphin game as a playoff game. In two weeks, we will be the AFC East champions.
How Come the pats arent mentioned in the scenarios for the wildcard? would those scenarios guanrantee the pats win the division than or what?
No, they're not mentioned only on the second scenario and it is because a) they win the division or b) they are below because of a poorer conferencie record. Remember that no matter what, if we beat Miami we finish above them.
This is what I do not get... We are in first now. If the Jets beat Seattle and Miami and NE lose this week...and then we lose to Miami and NE wins, we are out and Miami gets the East...WTF?
Yup because then we no longer have the divisional record tiebreaker as we would all be tied at 4-2. It would come down to common opponents, which we lose.
No, we're out and New England wins the East according to the Yahoo! playoff generator. The third tiebreaker is common games, in this case the NFC West and AFC West games, since they split all the games with each other and everyone will have beaten Buffalo. The only two teams left that don't fit that category that we won were TEN and CIN, and we beat both. I know NE lost to Indianapolis. I forget who Miami lost to, or if they lost to anyone, but NE would be 6-2 against the AFC/NFC West.
Let's stay away form the chinese menu options please, those never seem to break just right. Win two and be done with it.
