Judging by the price they brought McG back it's backup money. I don't think there is much debating Tippman should start. Camp may prove otherwise or Rodgers may want a vet but if McG is starting they got him to come back for a song.
IMO JD still holds a grudge against McG and Schweitzer has the same experience (C and G) so he could be a cut candidate. For shits and giggles here are the position depth based on want positions players have started in the past
I'm curious...why would JD hold a grudge against McGovern? Because of his poor play? Your last sentence seems to indicate that you were including a chart or graph. What happened to it?
Lol, I got distracted and didn’t do it. There was a play/game in ZWs rookie season where the OL collapsed and ZW got murdered. MCG looked like he had no fight in him. I remember hearing at the time JD was pissed. FF to his exit interview CMG mentioned publicly he didn’t think he’d be invited back…. Just speculation in my part connecting some dots. Spending less time than I’d like double checking here is potential depth per position: LT - Brown- Becton-AVT-Warren LG - LDT - AVT - Turner -Schweitzer C - Tippmann - CMG - Schweitzer RG - AVT - CMG - Schweitzer - Turner RG - Becton - Mitchell - Warren - AVT- Turner
OK, thanks. I had forgotten about that play and MCG's lack of fight. I think there's a good chance that McGovern may not even make the team. Schweitzer could beat him out for the backup C job, and I think he would be ahead of McGovern on the depth chart at OG. McGovern was bad at OG. His worst seasons in the NFL I believe were when he was playing OG in Denver. The only changes I'd make to your potential depth per position chart are: C - Tippman - Schweitzer RG - AVT - Schweitzer - Turner With the numbers being so tight, I think the Jets will keep 9 OL at best, and maybe only 8 again. Barring injury, I think they'll keep Brown, Becton, Warren, Turner and Mitchell at OT, and maybe only AVT, Tippman and Schweitzer at IOL. With Turner's ability to play OG, AVT's ability to play OT, and Schweitzer's ability to play both C and OG. They'd have great flexibility. They'll probably only have Tippman focus on C this year, but he could get some work at OG just in case. I don't think any of the OTs would make it to the PS, but possibly McGovern and Colon can make it to the PS.
Yeah, my bad, I wasn’t predicting the depth chart as much as wanting to show how most people on the line have position versatility giving us incredible depth. Spot on, I agree with your post sans Tippmann at G as i don’t think he lined up at G his entire NCAA career. Apparently the Jets were trying to trade back into the 1st to make sure we got him. I think we have 9 OL on the 53 and I could see Colon as one of them.
probably a battle, depends how quickly tippman picks up the offense. I know with rodgers at QB we won't want a OC making rookie mistakes so i'm thinking mcgovern wins and tippman takes over next year but you never know
that would be disappointing. as a high 2nd round pick and the first center off the board, Tippman should play & contribute right away.
From a Jets site: He played four years at Louisiana and started and played in 37 games the past three years. Twenty-nine of those starts, including all 13 this past season, came at right tackle, with seven at LT and one at LG
yeah I think they drafted him to play that swing role here and that might be his future in this league. I don't see him ever as a full time starter on either side but he can carve out a nice career as a role player they plug in as needed
Figure since they’re taking a look at C options this would fit here. https://www.reddit.com/r/fixedbythe..._app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=1&utm_term=1
