Yea I’m torn. I definitely didn’t want Bevell but if we don’t have another experienced OC on the list then this is bad. Either way it’s a bad look for the org that a mid level assistant won’t even interview.
Although if it comes down to the no playcalling experience guys and Hackett give me anyone other than Hackett.
I guess this job isn't as attractive as some here believe. Big problem is the HC optics and a perceived lack of stability regarding '23/24. Nobody is gonna take this job for a year only. Most everyone figures Saleh is done after this year if the Jets fail to make the playoffs. What OC would take this job with no QB or job security??? Only a newbie and you can't really trot one out and expect the fanbase to do anything other than revolt. This pretty much applies to any Vet QB coming in. They know its still all about zwilson so at best, they're a one or two year rental. This situation has been handled horribly. The Circus is back in town and sadly, nobody saw it coming..
Serious question... does ANYONE think this job is attractive? Even the most delusional of Jets fans? It's one of the least ideal scenarios I could possibly dream up.
My suggestion to people, just chill. As much as reporters want to throw out names, nobody, other than those in Jetsland, knows any more than we do. The 'leaks' are most likely coming from OC candidates, & their agents/PR people. Any serious candidate will not leak anything, as leaking would hurt their chances with prospective teams. To teams/corporations, especially in any negotiations, leaking is a no-no. So, speculate as you like, but unless the Jets interview someone that blows their socks off, we aint gonna know anything 'til after the SB. .
I don't disagree, but there is another way to look at it. The offense has been so bad for the last two years that if an OC comes in and makes it even marginally competent, he'll look like the next Bill Walsh.
I am beside myself that we just missed out on the guy that called a pass play that handed the Pats a SB victory. Marshawn who?
FWIW i have no problem with the Seahawks call. Always thought that was an execution issue. Frankly I think a lot of people and teams would have been caught completely off guard with that. Belichek probably cheated and knew it was coming. If he knew (fairly), hats off to him -- as much as i hate to say that there wasn't enough time to reliably count on two rushing attempts. but there was for a pass and a rush. Whether Wilson should have chucked it out, or if the WR should have boxed Malcolm out better will be a question for the ages. If Marshawn ran it and got stoned everyone would have been criticized for that too I suspect. still one of the best SBs to watch as a fan
You suspect wrong. No one would have second guessed him with Lynch as the RB. As far as entertaining goes, you have to be fucking kidding me. That was an absolute horror show.
I was watching the game with my die-hard Patriots fan uncle who proceeded to scream when that pass got picked off. Fuck Darrel Bevell and everyone who looks like Darrel Bevell!
Man if Paul Fucking Hackett’s kid winds up as our OC…Only the Jets would work nepotism to their disadvantage
The thought of Paul Hackett's son becoming the next Jets OC is actually kind of hilarious. At least he's an experienced NFL OC though right?....
Interestingly enough, Joe Brady was interviewed for the Jets head coaching job when they hired Saleh, so they always liked him. Monken has history with the Jets too, as he was heavily recruited as OC when they wanted Rhule, and Rhule said hell no I won’t take the job. I think both have sufficient play calling and QB development experience to be front runners right now.
