@BrowningNagle Same with Detroit btw: https://www.detroitlions.com/team/front-office-roster/brad-holmes "Brad Holmes was named the Lions Executive Vice President and General Manager on Jan. 14, 2021. In his role, he oversees the Lions' football operations and reports directly to Principal Owner and Chair Sheila Ford Hamp and President and CEO Rod Wood." I am telling you, we need one guy who is the head of football and GM at the same time. It's just needs to be a good guy. Splitting this position, even if someone does it in NFL somewhere under some circumstance, just means GM is less attractive for candidates. I am really hopeful Spielman and Tanny will find the right guy. Spielman just did that for Washington.
I'm a fan of this move. Anything that moves Woody further away from the decision-making process is a win. I don't have strong feelings about The 33rd Team overall but it's reassuring that they successfully helped the Commanders with this process.
The Vikings are a pretty well run franchise and draft pretty well for the most part too. Spielman was there for 16 years.
For me it's basically saying be afraid, be very afraid. I pointed this out elsewhere and i'll repeat it again here. Nobody (other then maybe Greenie's terrible "fan" takes) beat that "you do and give up whatever it takes to bring in Aaron Rodgers as your QB" drum louder then Tanna in his ESPN spots leading up to that trade being finalized. He's on record for being on Team Just Give Up the 1st outright...or 2. Pretty much every GM'ing take Tanna gives on ESPN comes across completely outdated and cringey imo. That he had some past success over a decade ago doesn't wash away the concern I'd have in the modern day with putting his voice in any decision making room. Game has passed him by. This is a hard sounding lean into "more of the same ol same ol Jets" to me.
lol And we all KNOW that this would be a MUCH better decision than if Woody were making it on his own
Hey Woody, I got a little tip for ya. Save the money on the Team 33 BS and go out and hire Borgonzi. You're welcome.
Does indeed sound better then were Tanna ended up on it. I didn't follow Spielman's evolving takes on the situation like I had to with Tanna (until i just quit watching ESPN daytime talk shows altogether this year), but he's still losing me right off the bat as soon as he states GB having the leverage there. I still vehemently disagree with that being the case to this day, and I wouldn't want a GM that wasn't capable of walking into that negotiation feeling similar.
Only time will tell if this is the right move. Spielman was involved in the Commanders search so I'll give him points for that. However, Adam Peters was going to be the GM pick, regardless of what Spielman's input was, is what I know from following that situation. At the very least, Woody is getting advice from real GMs who have been in the war rooms before and in Spileman's case, has had some good success drafting vs some Korn Ferry bullshit. As sad as that is, it's an improvement for this confused franchise.
I like the way you are thinking! Still, what if he is hired by someone else? You need to look at all options here, and 33d guys will do that.
