My guess is that the Brewers signing Wolf would prevent this trade from happening. Hey Omar instead of wasting 12M on some 38 year old broken down catcher maybe you should have jumped at the chance to sign a pitcher so you could get a young quality OF like Hart. The guy has 5 tool written all over him and just had an awful year. I am sick to my stomach and I still have a fucking 12 hour flight back to LA in 5 hours. Ugggh the agony of being a Mets fan. Here I was checking the net fr the 1st time in abnout 4 days hoping to hear good news and instead I want to shoot myself... nice job Omar. You fucking worthless bastard. Seriously why even be a Mets fan? The asshats across town who oh btw are celebrarting their 27th championship and our division rivals are getting better and our gem of Free Agency is Bengie Molina.... unreal.

He turned down that same offer from Boston I think so I'd imagine it'd have to be for more. My guess is the Mets find a taker for Castillo at some point too.

Omar realizes we only have one quality starting pitcher, right?
Wake the f up already and break up the inconsistently healthy and/or productive "core" of Wright/Beltran/Reyes by trading for a front of the line pitcher like Halladay. We're holding on to these guys like they're irreplaceable and I have yet to see evidence from one season that they aren't. Bay makes up more than enough for the loss of any two of Wright/Beltran/Reyes...not because he's that good but because they're not.

If the Mets sign Bay they will regret it almost immediately. All of the flaws which are covered by the Green Monster will become quite apparent in Citi Field, and to top it off the Red Sox don't seem to think that he can hold up over a longterm deal (and we all know that durability problems are the last thing that the Mets need.)

John Lackey should be priority #1, Matt Holliday priority #2, Jason Bay a backup plan.

I heard on WFAN that the Mets have offered 4 years for 65 mill (or 5 million more than Boston).

You know that might be right. Either way I don't think the additional year at the same annual salary would be enough. I'm not a huge Bay fan and I think his defense in a big outfield like CitiField would be bad news. Boston doubts his ability to stay healthy for the length of a long term contract and that's playing leftfield in Boston which is about the size of my cubicle. I'd imagine it'd only be worse in Queens.

This is just flat wrong. All 2 of Wright, Beltran, and Reyes are in the top 5 at their position in baseball. Trading Reyes for Halladay without a replacement plan for him (or Wright or Beltran) would be idiotic. Also, Bay does not make up for the loss of one of these players let alone two of them. We can't talk about this deal like its done and he's going to the Mets. This is only a rumored contract being offered. He probably won't take it.

Talent wise yes but the last couple years even when healthy, Reyes is a fringe top 5 shortstop.

I agree with you! I would trade one of the core to get holliday (if they would go for it). I heard Lackey told his people that he was only going to move his family to the east coast if he was blown away by the money. So the Mets would have to go like Santana money for a guy who is injury prone.

First, I would debate that Reyes is a fringe top 5 SS. There is only 1 I'd rather have than him hands down and that's HanRam. Second, even if we accept for a second that he is only the fifth best SS in baseball, you'd trade him without a backup plan? What are we going to do move Castillo to short and play DMurph at second?

Maybe I have a different perspective than you being a Yankees fan, but look at the numbers. I'd take Hanley Ramirez, Jimmy Rollins, Derek Jeter, or Troy Tulowitzki over Reyes without much thought. Maybe Jason Bartlett as well.

All of those players certainly had better seasons than Reyes did last year, but

    1) Jeter is old and it was his first 15+ HR season since 2006.
    2) Rollins had a terrible season .250/.296/.423.
    3) If Jason Barlett turns out to be the player he was this season than an argument could be made to take him over Reyes, but if he is even remotely close to the player he had been his entire career before this year, its not even close.
    4) Tulo has had injury problems, but a case could be made.

Like I said before, the only no brainer is HanRam.

    1) Given that the Mets intend to win in the near future, I'm pretty sure that they trade Reyes for Jeter 10 times out of 10. Homers aren't everything, Reyes' offense isn't on Jeter's level (nor are his leadership or baseball intelligence.)

    2) Rollins was putrid last year. But unless he throws up another stinker this year you still have to give him the nod over Reyes--let's not forget, this guy won an MVP not too long ago.

    3) I doubt that Bartlett will repeat his numbers from last year, but they were good enough that I had to put him at least in the conversation. I'd probably take Reyes over him.

    4) Yeah Tulo's had injury problems. So has Reyes. And when they've been healthy, Tulowitzki has been better.
