FA begins tonight at midnight. Hey maybe the Mets will pull a Redskins and sign like Lackey at 3 A.M.
Don't expect any major signings until after December 1st, when teams have to decide whether or not to offer players arbitration. I do think that the Mets eventually end up with Lackey though.
I think it has to happen the other way around. FIrst trade Castillo, then trade for Brandon Phillips.
The Yankees have outrighted Shelly Duncan off their 40 man roster. I always liked his right handed bat. Should the Mets go after him to be the right handed platoon with Murphy at first base?
so the reds are willing to move brandon phillips but also want to move arroyo, who is due $13 mil last year and harang who is due $14.5 mil last year. i say offer maine murphy and a low prospect for salary relief and take phillips and arroyo. harang if we can give them a little lesser of a prospect b/c of the $1.5 mil difference. and 3 way castillo to cubs bradley to rangers millwood to mets
I know this is a 2009-10 Met thread, but Jim Callis of Baseball America predicts the Mets infield in 2011 will be David Wright, Jose Reyes, Reese Havens and Ike Davis and calls it a very good foundation to build upon.
Nothing is going to happen till after December 1st which is the last day for teams to offer arbitration to their former players who are now free agents. The 7th is the 1st day of the winter meetings, and the last day said players can accept arbitration.
Great I'll be in Asia when the Mets start signing next year's crop of failures.... guess that's not such a bad thing. I'll have a 14 hour flight to be angry about not some dumb move by the Mets although combine that 14 hour flight with a bad move by the Mets and that could be a long....very long flight.
The Mets are close to a one-year deal with a vesting option with infielder Alex Cora, reports WEEI's Rob Bradford. Bradford believes Cora will again be guaranteed $2MM. The agreement is pending a physical. Cora, a Scott Boras client, had his OBP slip from .371 in '08 to .320 this year with increased playing time (308 plate appearances, 599 innings in the field). With all of the Mets' needs this winter, I'm a little surprised they didn't fill Cora's role more cheaply.
