It was definitely Opening Day or the home opener. The exhibition games were either Friday/Saturday or Saturday/Sunday because I went to the second one and didn't have Friday classes. Plus, I wouldn't cut class to listen to an exhibition game on the radio. If I had TV access to see CitiField, maybe, but not radio.
89!!?? For a team that's predicted to come in 4th place in the division that numbers pretty damn high. The Mets didn't even have 89 wins in 07 and 08....
Wow.... I am absolutely on the under. My guess is somewhere from 75-80 games. The problem is Philly should be near 90- 100.
don't mistake my comment about Wang to mean that's the only thing I see as a problem with this team, that was just a minor oversight on thier part.......there are so many that if you don't see them, your just looking through Met blue colored glasses.... the organization is a laughing stock..so much so, there's not even a true front spokesman anymore.......they hide Minaya as much as possible because he's a buffoon in front of the camera.......they left an extremely questionable pitching staff in tact.........they let a few admittedly marginal guys, but guys who actually wanted to play for them go elsewhere this offseason (believe me, a few guys that want to be here would have gone a long way)..they've pissed off one of their major players due to their utter incompetence to the point that he doesn't listen to them anymore and goes off and gets surgery.......the build a park that makes pitching and defense paramount, yet they don't build the team to fit the park.......they have like 5 catchers though ; ) & Luis Castillo...awesome. Mike Jacobs and Dan Murphy competing for first base, nice. and don't forget the bench depth...they build a new stadium and forget to put any team memorabilia around the park, ownership gets tangled in the Madoff scam, I can go on and on they're a joke, plain and simple...........maybe I'll be eating my words at sometime during the season, but sadly, i doubt it
You've just hit the tip of the iceberg with this franchise, they took a young team that was on the cusp of competing for multiple world titles and with that same core of guys have turned them into a mediocre at best team that has the payroll of a big boy but the managment of a minor league franchise. I find it amazing that year in and year out we all sit here saying the same thing about this team and they continue to go deeper and deeper into a black hole. I just don't understand how a team with these resources and playing where they do can continue to be a laughing stock. Even teams like Baltimore and Seattle have gone leaps and bounds to try and compete yet the Mets can't even field a 3rd place team. Think about it...since the Mets last made the WS in 2000 every single team that was an expansion franchise in the 90's has played in the WS and two of them have won it. A usual laughing stock in Philadephia has become a serious player and have become the franchise in the NL. I'd say the Phils are the favorites to get back to the WS too. The Red Sox who were always labeled as losers have won 2 WS titles, another former garbage franchise in the Angels who also were always the 2nd team have become a model franchise and WS Champ and also the team in Southern California. I have serious doubts that you'll be eating anything with this group. It's the Mets so anything above mediority is considered success.
Yea the mets organization is a horror show and shows no efforts of changing but you can not complain and say they havent even built a third place team. Injuries plagued us last year get the fuck over it. do you honestly think if pretty much every player on our team didnt get injured or atleast some of them we would have been in 4th.
Anyone got any insight as to this guy? I've never heard of him, but the article makes it that the Mets are REAL high on him...... http://http://newyork.mets.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20100220&content_id=8104782&vkey=news_nym&fext=.jsp&c_id=nym By Marty Noble / MLB.com 02/20/10 5:50 PM EST PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- The Mets' view of Rod Barajas has changed dramatically since the days that preceded their pursuit of Bengie Molina. Then, Barajas was their third preference among the three catchers in the free-agent market, and he wasn't all that close to No. 2 Yorvit Torrealba. Today, he is at the threshold of the door for the trainers room in the Mets' Spring Training headquarters. After an about-face, the Mets said Saturday, "Give us Barajas," and just a signature and physical stand between him and a place in the team's Opening Day lineup. An agreement on the terms of a one-year contract was reached Saturday, a member of the Mets' hierarchy confirmed late in the day. Offered a Minor League contract at first, Barajas agreed to a big league deal. The terms reported -- $1 million for 2010 -- were inaccurate, the source said. He also said a physical was necessary for the 34-year-old right-handed hitter who spent his past two seasons with the Blue Jays. Barajas appears likely to be the Mets' primary catcher, with veteran Henry Blanco likely to serve as his understudy. Josh Thole, not yet the 2011 catcher-designate, is all but a definite to be the regular catcher with the Mets' Triple-A Buffalo affiliate, which means Omir Santos, the incumbent big league regular and the No. 1 catcher as late as noon ET on Saturday, now will serve as the Triple-A reserve. Barajas has more power and a greater run production resume than any of the catchers the Mets have under contract or have considered, except for Molina. Barajas hit 19 home runs and drove in 71 runs in merely 429 at-bats last season. No Mets player hit more than 12 home runs (Daniel Murphy), and only David Wright (72) had more RBIs. Barajas batted .226, 12 points lower than his current career average, and had a .258 on-base percentage and a .403 slugging percentage. He struck out 76 times and walked 20 times. Barajas started 110 games, all as a catcher, and committed eight errors, the most in the American League by a backstop. He threw out 34 percent of would-be basestealers last season, a better-than-average percentage, and has thrown out at least 33 percent of basestealers each season since 2002. The Mets indicated Barajas had asked for at least $2 million early in the offseason, and they weren't inclined to accommodate him. But as his asking price decreased, their interest increased. Now the club is almost in position to have its fourth Opening Day catcher -- Mike Piazza, Paul Lo Duca and Brian Schneider precede Barajas -- in seven years, with Thole likely but not definite for 2011.
If you like old, fat catchers who struggle to get on base, then you'll like Barajas. He is a good defensive catcher and he does have a good percentage of throwing out opposing baserunners, but we cannot expect anything good from the guy when he's batting. He has had good pop in his bat, but that should go out the window if he joins the Mets. He hit 19 home runs for Toronto last year. Expect that number to go down to around 9 or 10 if he signs with the Mets.
Rod Barajas? Why would the Mets be really high on him? He's not completely horrendous, I suppose, but he's a fairly well known commodity: Average catcher behind the plate and below average hitter with a bit of pop in his bat. That .226 BA and .256 OBP tell you most of what you need to know.
Barajas ok wtf are they thinking. Why is Omir below this guy after we were calling him our starting catcher. Maybe Omar is mad cus his name is to close to his.
The last thing the Mets needs is another guy that can't get on base. Can we please xtend the offseason a little longer because this season is already shaping up to be a disaster and we're still over a month away from Opening Day.
Yea I have no idea what they saw in him and if I were Omir Santos I would be livid right now. How do you go from starting catcher to the back up catcher on a AAA team in a day.
The fact that they did a 180 on Barajas means either A) They are desperate at catcher B) Have no faith in Santos C) Are awful at evaluating talent and FA's D) Omar has no clue whatte fuck he is doing E) All of the above My answer is E
I agree with B. I think there is some issue with Santos that we dont know about. I dont understand how a GM and even Jerry could be so high on Omir Santos and than one day just decide hes the backup triple a catcher. WTF lol.
I wanted Molina but nooooo we have Rod Barajas instead. I give a month a Santos will have the starting catcher job back.
Jose Reyes met with the FBI to talk about his treatments from Canadian doctor Anthony Galea who has been linked to HGH and Actovegin (an unapproved drug). Reyes claims that he only received blood-spinning therapy (which is not banned or illegal), but who knows. http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/story/...-doctor-linked-with-woods?tag=headlines;other
