This better be a precursor to a bigger deal, I could make a better trade with my fucking eyes closed

Wasn't Stokes actually kind of decent in the bullpen last year?

stokes gave up 72 hits in 70 innings and 45 strikeouts.
we only owe him $3.5 for the next 2 years peanuts
this lets fernando martinez start in the minors where he belongs instead as our 4th or 5th outfielder.

He also had the 3rd lowest ERA for a reliever behind K-rod and Pedro. So I guess they're expecting that Japanese guy they signed to be a stud?

The Matthews contract was one of the more horrible contracts we've seen. Angels should've been able to void it after it came out that he was juicing in his only good season.

Don't like the trade because who needs Matthews? He sucks. There's not even any hope of his "regaining his 2006 form", unless someone wants to start him on the huge juicing regimen he was on back then.

I heard it was Stokes... the good news is the Angels are picking up most of Matthew's salary but even for the Mets to pay him they could find a minor leaguer and pay him 400K to do what their gonna get out of Matthews. I understand this from Anaheim's side but I don't see what the Mets get out of this trade other then a guy who'll hit .220 with 7 HRs and 22 RBIs.

not just a rumor. It is Stokes.

Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com has confirmed that reliever Brian Stokes is headed to the Angels in return for outfielder Gary Matthews Jr..

Everyone seems to like Matthews as a person, and the Angels are pretty much paying his salary. Plus, he can still play a little defense. Not a bad deal for Minaya.

Agree there. Cheap, plays good defense, good for the clubhouse, and at the least, has a bit of pop in his bat. Not a bad move.

Everyone I know likes me too, and I can play good defense too.

Where do I go to get my $23 million deal?

Spring training 02 season, if I'm not mistaken. We actually had Sarge Jr on the 40 man roster, and we cut him to make room for McKay Christensen. God knows what happened to him. Now he's back. Lol..

The funny is this isn't a bad deal for Omar. It's not a good deal but given the moves he's made over the years this isn't a bad deal. It would probably rank as one of his better moves which is still being laughed at by Met fans and visiting fans. I don't understand why they wouldn't take a flyer on Nady if they're willing to trade away for Matthews.

I think its a pretty good deal. We needed someone who could do SOME running, an ok defender, and someone who can now be a 4th outfielder once Beltran comes back. Plus, we have him for about 2 million for the next 2 years! In my opinion, an upgrade to the bench plus a good temporary replacement until #15 is back.
