Yeah and if the Knicks are dumb enough to take on those contracts and not correctly use his expiring, teams will jump on that to unload the terrible contracts
I get a kick out of every day a Knick grabbing headlines over other guys not trying. Today its Chandler in the post. So now we have Anthony a month ago...J.R. Smith several times..and today Chandler. So who they hell are they talking about? Felton? Duh...we all know that..who else? Shumpert? Ok. Who else? Pablo? No. Amare? No. Who are they talking about? Its all of them!! Every single one of them. Chandler cant even dunk over a guard anymore. Anthony is a toll collector in the express lane. Smith? A joke.
Right, technically its possible. Except that it would be absolutely silly for the Knicks to take on a bunch of multi-year contracts, as you put it. Why would the Knicks take on a bunch of multi-year deals over Amare 1 year that is remaining when they themselves are about to rebuild. Most of the time, teams who dump contracts to free up cap space are those who are playing for nothing. All those teams don't have many players signed to long term deals, and most of who are locked in are franchise players. The next 2 years, FA is going to be important for everyone.
That's the thing, the rumor was the Knicks were looking to ship Amare's expiring which is silly. We can't put absolutely silly past the Knicks unfortunately
Melo can be completely useless when he isn't shooting but he's irreplaceable. Everyone else except Shump & TH jr need to go, starting with Woodson. The team gave up when the owner gave up by not firing Woodson
We need to weather this storm for another year. Make some good personnel choices, resign Melo, add some role pieces, and then really make the big moves in 2015. If we don't get Melo back, its going to be a huge shot in the gut for us.
Agreed GG except the Shump part. Did you watch him last night? The guy cant finish a lay up. Im not sure if he is just part of the thinking on this team that its not working..and the kid is mentally shot. That could be it. It could. He just isnt the same player of both ends of the court. He doesnt even rebound anymore. Hardaway is a tough S.O.B. I like his makeup and he will end up being a really solid player that all great teams have on their roster. He will eventually get the D end..he finishes well..he can hit 3's. Big kid. I like him a lot.
Nobody would've taken Amar'e two years ago. Now, lots of teams would. The thing with Carmelo is that if he wants to win, he would be much better off leaving, given the incompetents running the Knicks. So how can anyone hold it against him?
Woodson hates anyone under 25, Shumpert hates Woodson right back. I guarantee you Shumpert would be a COMPLETELY different player on any other team. The guy needs a competent coach
Rumors around the league say that same thing about Shump. They think the Knicks broke him. It's why OKC was reportedly willing to give up a 1st for him and why LAC wanted him bad too. People think Woodson and company messed him up. This is a simple explanation why Shump struggles, funny enough it goes back to Felton and how the offense is run http://online.wsj.com/news/articles/SB10001424052702303277704579347272543933580 Next year is a tanking year for NY from all looks of it. If Melo stays, the team makeup is still very similar to this year. Knicks missed their shot at trading Chander for a first this year during the season. I hope maybe a draft day trade or something can happen where we send Chandler off or something.
it would be absolutely horrid for the Knicks to do so, but I was responding to your post that no team would take Amare, not that the Knicks shouldn't do it. the Knicks need to ride out next year and position themselves to be a destination for Kevin Love and another FA in 2015, and convince Melo that is worth hanging around for. problem is that, although I bet many players would love to come to the Knicks and play on the NY stage, not many are likely chomping at the bit to play for James Dolan considering how awful he has been as the owner. sitting across from that moron likely doesn't generate the excitement that getting pitched by Pat Riley or the late Dr. Buss probably did. Dolan cancels out all the excitement anyone would have for playing for the Knicks.
Well the Knicks are in complete freefall and Dolan is completely infatuated with Melo. The only hope is that Dolan just does whatever Melo wants in a desperate bid to keep him. Maybe then they'll make some better moves
Very possible. Could be. If ever there was a team that isnt buying anything the coach says on both ends its this team. Announcers like to blame players and I always buy that..but not with this team..the switching...Letting Melo stand there with the ball over his head waiting to make a move for 10 seconds. He has no control over anyone so that could be the reason Shumpert has gone backwards.
What kills me is the opportunity is there to blow this team up and get assets. I find it hard to believe they wouldn't be able to get a future first for Shumpert after OKC offered one this year. Chandler has value around the league, even as an expiring. I'd have to imagine you could trade Chandler to Portand for Robin Lopez, Thomas Robinson & CJ McCollum. Maybe OKC decides to make a run and go over the luxury tax and would be interested in both Shumpert & Chandler.
I just think there is nobody in charge to pull any triggers right now..nobody. This wait until the end of the season nonsense when so many teams are still in it for spots and to move up in the playoff picture. Its ashame because I totally agree with you...there are pieces on this team that teams would want.
Knicks are one of the absolute worst franchises in american sports in terms of ownership and team management. Dolan only has one solution to fix this no matter if Melo signs or leaves...HIRE PHIL JACKSON AS PRESIDENT OF THE NEW YORK KNICKS Fire, Woodson, Mills, Houston, Trainers, EVERYONE NEEDS TO GTFO OUT. Let Phil hire his team. Full autonomy like Glen Sather has over the Rangers
I'm really down with that. Phil would kick the bucket as a coach but as an exec up in the office and on the phone he would be absolutely perfect. Get this done, somebody please send Dolan on a one-way ferry to Somalia
I know to some this sounds crazy and Im not sure if Jackson would even be into at this point in his life but when a franchise is so fractured...so bad from top to bottom, you need a personality bigger then the game itself. You need that someone who is so respected he is probably better then he really is. Reminds of the Jets and when they hired Parcells. Parcells was so huge..so demanding of respect that he was bigger then the problem. Of course what followed was near greatness and changed the way the team was looked at from day 1. Now anyone can point to how it ended..but who cares..for several years it made sense for the first time in a long time. Knicks need that someone. They need that it factor. A guy that is bigger then the game. A real name. Not a Steve Mills. Problem is that with Dolan here, it would never happen. Jackson could have been on the Knicks radar several times. Dolan has more money then God. He could have offered him the world. With Dolan here, big name GMS will never be able to get the credit and do what they have to do.
James Dolan's name is being blasted now in the media...More and more people know he is the root of the problem. He fired Grunwald for no reason, put Steve Mills to babysit this franchise and everyone else has tuned out this pathetic coaching group. Having a big name guy like Phil Jackson will work...He wants a opportunity. It anything he is a Pat Riley or John Elway and can help recruit talent. He even said just two days ago on USA TODAY Sports with Sam Amick that there are teams he is talking to about a role in the front office. He wants to come back in that capacity. If Dolan gives him $10 million a year and the full authority to put his guys in place that would work.
