Smith gets stuck on Nelson by accident, Nelson gets into paint but too many bodies, has to kick out to Reddick who travels
Come on Woodson, make Tyson's and everyone elses job easier. Shump on the primary ball handler amkes life easier for everyone defensively. It's not even a defensive strategy, it's common sense based on what we see Shump do and has done
Shump was on Nelson! Reddick drains 3 on Felton Next possession, Nelson doesn't touch ball, Reddick goes nowhere on pick and roll vs Felton by Felton bails him out with a foul.
Shump then steals the ball from Nelson. But next possession Shump fouls Nelson. At least we have the right matchup though
Tied at 51 at half. JJ and Nelson have 35 of the Magic's 51 points. Finally at the end of the 1st half we switched Shump onto Nelson. Finally, hopefully Woodson sticks with it. Player of the game so far Tyson Chandler with 13 points and bailing us as much as he can defensively. Once we get our bigs back, hopefully we see a more aggressive Tyson. Felton has played well in one direction, offensively.
We have so many lineups I want to see. Two KEY things, Chandler getting a bunch of easy buckets and we got Novak looks. I guess also JR is 3/5 is nice too.
Knicks are just toying with the Magic. They might even have thought they had a chance to win in the first quarter
Missed the beginning of the third quarter? Shump has 4? Hopefully from guarding Jameer?! Joined in to see Chandler lob from JR
Gotta give credit to Woodson, we are running some beautiful plays offensively. Spacing is so much better and he understtood you cna't throw Melo in the post with 2 bigs out there
Using JR as the primary ball handler, good call by Woodson. You kick to Felton and Fleton understands his 3 shot isn't there, so drives collapsing the rotating defense getting Amare good looks
Some minor changes opened up the offense greatly. The only worrisome thing of this offense is it encourages Melo to jack up 3s, especially bad ones. That's the risk you take though. Jr as the ball handler. MElo gets the ball, defense floods him. He kicks to JR who hits Felton. Felton drives on the over reacting defense to cancel the flood/double and finds Amare /Chadnler. They key thing on Chandler/Amare's end is they are establishing themselves close to the paint. So they keep defenders off of JR/MElo making it a long way to go AND when Felton drives they can catch the ball, take one step, and score. No dribbles, too quick for defense to set up.
I love the talking coming from the guys guarding JJ. As soon as JJ runs into a pick, his defender YELLS switch and the Knicks are aware
Oh and I guess the worst defensive team in January are the Orlando Magic so while a good building block, obviously we need to see this against the Bulls/Pacers ideally but teams inbetween on the way there
Melo/Amare pick and roll, Melo immediately doubled. He kicks it to Novak or Jr who kicks it without thinking to Prig wide open in the corner. Prigs sinks the 3. Prig might be my favorite player on this team
The defense with Melo/Amare is getting picked apart, but surprisingly enough it looks like Novak/JR are doing a great job helping
