He had a bad day. There are no excuses for it. We'll just see how it goes. And is it possible for you to just enjoy a win with no freaking complaints? You must be a real joy to hang with, Champ. All you EVER do is complain.
All I'm saying is, the kid is a competitor and has kicked many, many balls in some pretty horrendous weather conditions and under a lot of pressure, so bringing in someone this early is an assinine thing to do.
227..............Your putting words in my mouth, look at my posts. I don't think we need to give up on Nuge, not at all, I like him alot. But, if he continues to struggle, we have to look elsewhere, the NFL season is too short to have your kicker go in the tank for multiple games. Mangini wouldn't be doing his job if he allowed it to happen. Trust me, I live in Columbus, and have seen Nugent's entire OSU career, if anyone can recover he can........but his leash will be short.
a lesson for ALL of you GM's in the making that you NEVER EVER draft a kicker on the first day. - that my opinion whether nugent makes those kicks or not. i don't care if he can hit a soda/beer can from the opposite 20 yard line. jil
its not acceptable but im not writing off a 2nd round pick and a kid that has many years ahead of him after one bad game...the team will get behind him and support him!!!
...or Doug Brien. Anyway, several important points to make that everyone seems to be missing. #1 - Last year everyone was creaming themselves when the Jets selected Nugent as the "final piece" to the Super Bowl puzzle. So all those posting the "I told you so..." are a bit disingenous. #2 - I don't care whether the Jets cut him or trade him or have him collect trash after the game. The biggest issue is, if not Nugent, then who do you bring in to replace him?
I have been somewhat supportive of Nugent in the past - but so far it looks as if Bradway's last big trade was a major mistake!
I was quite surprised we took a kicker in the second round after giving up a pick for Jolley...but then again I remember that it was Bradway at the helm. I think Nugent could be an average kicker, but not sure if this kid has what it takes...College is different than the Pros...Guess we'll have to wait and see. I say keep the kid around and let him practice, practice, practice.
It is just really scary when you miss an extra point, a 30, and a 34 yard field goal on a beautiful day with no wind and pleasant temperatures. That's what is very troublesome.
Could I live with him kicking the game winning field goal when its raining and and the weather is disgusting ? No, id likely pass out. On his second miss, by heart was beating so fast, I had to calm down.
and it's not like they were close either... also, don't forget the one in the preseason that was from, what, like 45 yards that was short? combine these with his inability to kick off and we have some problems...
I think you're talking about the one the announcers said was short, but in reality clanged off the right upright. Also, his kickoffs seemed OK yesterday.
