Because he can hit it. Really really far. Sometimes. Like say if the other team brought in someone particularly terrible who threw fastballs right over the plate. Then he could hit it, really far. Because that's the Mets biggest problem- not having guys who can hit home runs- and Jacobs solves that, one out of every 20 times he comes up. Mike Jacobs doesn't go the other way. He doesn't walk, because that'd be a bad thing, clogging up the basepaths and whatnot... All Mike Jacobs does is MASH. So really it doesn't matter if he plays a lot of really bad defense at first base or even if he strikes out nearly a third of the time- those home runs he'll hit make it all worth it! This is pretty obvious to all *knowledgeable* Mets fans, but it seems to have escaped your grasp. -X-
In all seriousness, I'm excited to see this lineup without Jacobs and Cora in it. I don't have high expectations for Tejada, but at least there's something good about watching a young player find his game on a bad team. -X-
bump post. I was right on for the most part, as i expected. Mickey Mouse baseball ruins the Metsies in 2010. OF was a disaster for everyone other than Pagan, who i was clamoring for to start out of Spring Training. Jerry fucked the mets out of atleast a dozen wins, by being Jerry. Beltran battled injuries all year team defense sucked, castillo is a dinosaur playing 2B, Wright cant throw for shit, and Reyes can't make a simple play in huge parts of games rotation was filled with question marks, but held their own for the most part this season. China-men didn't do much of anything other than Takahashi's nice start to the season, which slowly faded into shit. this team sucks dick. plain and simple, each and every year, and will continue to, until something is done in the front office and begins to work its way down to field level. fuck you Fred Coupon for wasting on average 3 hours of each of my days watching your shitty products performances. and around a few hundred dollars that went into your pockets from me buying tickets to a couple games, dippin dots, shake shack shit, whatever, i want my money back asshole. fuck you Jerry Maneul for being an incompetent sack of shit, you and CB Buckner can thank affirmative action for landing you jobs in the big leagues fuck you Omar Minaya for giving this team a joke of a bullpen ever since after the 2006 season, fuck you for a lot of other things too, but im not gonna get worked up over it, i just hate what you have done to the bullpen primarily. It's really hard to get excited about this team. Even now, they're engaged in cheap showmanship, bringing up a totally unprepared Fernando Martinez when they should be promoting Lucas Duda or Nick Evans. The best thing they could do is use this offseason to buy out the remaining years on Perez and Castillo's deals and move on with cheap alternatives that can play baseball at a league average level. -X-
