I think the only way the Mets can get me excited again to be a fan is to fire Jerry and rehire Bobby V. I loved that man. i was 10 years old during the 2000 season. even though they lost to the yankees in the world series i'll never forget the character and personality that team had. Mike Piazza was truly my hero around that time period, no homo.
Hey, Jason Bay can play every position! He'll pitch, then run into the outfield and make the play, then he can throw to the plate and sprint in to make the tag!
The words "Piazza" and "homo" are used together a lot. It's rare to see a "no" thrown in there:up: As for Willie Randolph, I'm agnostic as to whether or not the Mets should've fired him. He wasn't a very good manager, but his team wasn't very good either. He was definitely used as a scapegoat. That said, the problem wasn't that the Mets fired him--it's that they waited until late night after a victory to dodge the New York media. The Tony Bernazard/Adam Rubin circus makes a lot more sense when you remember how Minaya dealt with Randolph. I don't think that the Mets will be terrible this season. They should be a little healthier, and they still have talent in their lineup. I think they finish 3rd in the NL East (behind the Phillies and Marlins.)
same man, amen to that brother. That was a mets team that had some balls. The mets need to start playing some Rex Ryan baseball.
Has there been any signs or articles about him breaking down. I've never read about any problems in his arm, or anything else for that matter but I could be wrong. The problem with Kazmir is that he likes to party and isn't the most mature guy in the clubhouse. I have always been convinced these are why they flipped him for Zambrano so quick, the Mets believed he wouldn't be able to control himself in NY. I no way, shape, or form an I defending this trade because it will go down as on of the worse trades in the history of professional SPORTS. I know I saw a lot of Zambrano because he was in the AL east, but there is just no way in hell the Mets thought that Zambrano for Kazmir straight up was an even trade. The year before the trade, VZ led the AL in walks, wild pitches, and hit batsmen. He also led the AL in wild pitches in '04, and it only took him half a season to do it.
The dude has hit the DL twice for his shoulder (in one season), and once for his elbow, missing significant time in all instances. He's also had smaller day-to-day elbow issues on a couple of occasions, and missed a month of games last year with a quad injury. If you want another sign, though, his average fastball velocity was 93.7 in 2004 when he came up. It was 91.1 last year... pretty much heading south in every season. That's not a promising sign.
For it to go down as one of the worst trades in pro sports history, Kazmir would have to at least become a perennial All Star. We've got a long way to go before it evens cracks the top 10 worst trades in MLB history. At the time, I hated the trade because the Mets had this stupid idea that they were in the playoff race. I wanted them to give up on that season and trade veterans for prospects. They did the exact opposite. In retrospect, I wish the Mets held onto Kazmir for at least another six months. They could have used him that winter or the following season as trade bait to acquire a better player (or players) than Zambrano.
That was my main qualm with the trade. I wanted to see Kazmir pitch for the Mets, but I wasn't overly pissed that we let him go. It's just that based on his value as one of the top pitching prospects in all of baseball at the time, we got shit in return. We could have used him to acquire a major bat (remember all the Manny to the Mets rumors at the time), or used him as a piece to acquire a real bonafide ace.
It looks like the Mets are poised to be a third/fourth place team this season. Rather than addressing their bench with guys who can play in the present day, they went and signed guys who could play in 2006. It's as if they built a time machine in hopes of going back and defeating the Cardinals. If they didn't, then Cora, Matthews, and Jacobs represent one of the worst benches in baseball. And I only say one of because I'm sure Dayton Moore has done worse in KC. Maybe. -X-
