I hear ya, but that idea of cornerstone marketing sounds promising, whereas they can obtain additional revenue to offset the need for PSLs. One can dream can't they....
does anyone have any news on the Florham Park facility?? are they currently in construction? I guess they won't make for this coming camp.
Not sure of the current state of construction, the last I heard they were trying to finalize some zoning issues. The Jets are still scheduled to move to the site in June of 08 so I would assume barring problems this year will be the last camp at Hofstra....
I still have hope. If they know they will need to charge a psl I wish they would tell us now and give us 3 years to pay it off. Plus if they get the money now it can be invested and maybe we can pay less.
Yeah, they might not be around by the time it opens. Remember Enron Field? I want three things out of this: 1. No more "Giants Stadium". 2. No more red and blue stadium. 3. A view of the Manhattan skyline from within the stadium.
This is news to me and I work in the industry. Where did you pluck this little nugget of information from?
I was taking his word for it. I know they just had a huge problem and airlines often come and go, so it's not impossible they could be gone by 2010.
It's funny - I was with a group of guys in Rockland this weekend at a party - all Jet fans. Only one of the guys likes the idea of the new stadium, and even he said (season ticket holder) that it's a shame they abandoned the WSS Deal. Sorry folks, I still don't get the draw of a stadium in the swamp that we share with the Giants and that has no dome (retractable or otherwise?) I read last week the price tag of the new stadium is near or at the pricetag estimated for the WSS. I also read that the NFL is questioning whether is will give full funding for both the Jets and Giants for a single project? The whole thing smells like swamp land to me!
Please, man, give it up. I was for the WSS too, and I'm a season ticket holder that lives near the Meadowlands, but I was for it for the good of the Jets and the city over my own personal convenience 8 times a year. Having said that, it is the perfect location for a football stadium. It has all the space you need for tailgating and parking--if they could get those no-neck retards with their flashers out of the way funneling everyone down to one lane. It's in clear sight of the Manhattan skyline so it's still easily a "New York" venue, and easily accessible from the highways. They just need to run the trains out there and it would be perfect. As for the no roof, I don't want a roof. I want the pussy Dolphins to come up here and freeze their asses off. I want the occaisional snow or bad weather game. I hate watching games in domes. And who cares if we share it with the Giants? That's different from the past 25 years how? And it won't be their stadium first anymore, perfect. It really makes no sense to build two stadiums five miles apart, when you think about it. I mean, I love football as much as anybody, but come on.
Well, based on the latest news that the new stadium might not get the funding from the NFL - that it definitely won't have a retractable roof - and that the budget is as high as the budget for the WSS - why "give it up," now? Now is the perfect time to revisit the issue and ask the question, why this and not that? No roof means no Super Bowl, no Final Four, no winter major concert events, etc. A retractable dome is the best of both worlds. Wind and rain are the bigger issues - and why have them change the outcome of a game? Fair weather football is fair to both teams - why have Chad and his weak arm try and fling it into 60 mph winds? That's no fun to watch. The WSS made (and still makes) perfect sense. Who cares how close or far apart they are? Look at the beautiful new stadiums going up for the Mets and Yankees...both different, both close to one another...
Once again, I was for the WSS for all the reasons you mentioned, except playing "fair football" inside. It's no coincidence that New England is so tough to beat at home in the playoffs in January, or Buffalo back in the day. Regarding Chad, by the time they build this thing who knows if he'll be here or our starting QB? But the politicians in NY killed the WSS and nobody is going to fork over more millions to get it shot down again. The Giants were moving ahead with their plan, it was either get in at the beginning and go 50/50 or let the NY politicians fuck us once more and be second class citizens until the end of time.
Exactly! Enough already! Baamf, you could be right about the "four cornerstones" eliminating or reducing the need for PSLs. I'm encouraged by this, by the use of private ad revenue. It shows the Jets and Giants are thinking along those lines as opposed to going after the season ticketholders to shoulder the burden. They've got to know they'll alienate a hell of a lot of ticketholders if they PSL us all to death. As far as the cost of this joint stadium approaching the cost of the WSS, this is just simply wrong. First of all, the entire cost of this stadium is being split by two teams as opposed to us having to foot the bill for the entire WSS project ourselves. The Giants flatly stated they would not be partners to the WSS and that they would build their own stadium in New Jersey. So by partnering with the Giants, simple math tells me any joint stadium anywhere is less costly than us bulding our own stadium anywhere, much less in the heart of Manhatten, for crying out loud. Secondly, the estimates on the WSS (at the time) were ridiculously low, IMO. There is no way the Jets could have built that stadium in that location for anywhere near the conservative cost that was being touted around at the time and thats even if they could have broken ground immediately. The numbers they were throwing around was several years ago already. Building costs in NYC have skyrocketed since then and will continue to go through the roof, pun intended, so there is just simply no legitimate argument whatsoever that makes any sense economically for revisiting the cockamamie WSS idea. A dumb idea in a dumb location. You want to talk about PSLs? Christ, none of us would have been able to go to a game, once they would have gotten done accessing unbelievable PSLs on the WSS tickets. Do you think a season ticketholder who had to shell out $20,000 for PSLs is not going to pass that cost along to you when you go on eBay trying to find a ticket for a game? Think again. Ticket prices would have been astronomical across the board with the WSS. So no, I for one am happy as hell the WSS did not go through. Not trying to start up trouble with the NY guys, but I probably will in saying this, but there is just no way that ANY of the proposed locations in NY makes better sense than the Meadowlands partnership. Yeah, I know, "But it's not in NY." And here we go again.... you really gotta feel sorry for that poor horse.
The NFL owners approved the "double" funding a couple of months ago. This is a done deal. They gave the Jets and Giants each the funding they normally give to a team building a new stadium. Sorry, but this stadiuim is being built. I was for the WSS in a big way and I live 30 minutes from the Meadowlands. But there was too much working against it - NYC politicians, Dolan and Cablevision. Worst of all, Jet fans themselves bickered over the WSS. Many of them whined about there being no tailgating or parking or having to take the train or BS about traffic or the public funding going into the infrastructure or potential PSLs. It was a real whinefest. Now that the Jets are in NJ for good, the whining continues as fans now pine for the WSS or hold on to the Queens pipedream. The bottom line is that, with NYC letting the Jets go for the second time, if the Jets didn't team up with the Giants they would probably have left the New York area.
