i am very hopeful the jets now have stepped up to a qb who can guide the team to 17 points per game. nothing massive, but way better than what the jets had. 17 points with a solid 'd' has a chance. there's an argument to be made the jets should tank...but i'd prefer to see them win. it's not like theyd make much out of a high pick anyhow
one thing i gotta say about Greg is that his play action was awesome!!!! much better than what Mark has done
His PA is very reminiscent of the Pennington days. All we need now is a RB to compliment McElroy's fakes.
melcroy offense. this board really has no shame. this can just makes rudimentary offense and hands off. you know a player has no talent when he gets credit for THAT type of performance
I am now convinced you did not even watch the game. In addition to the addition by subtraction of NOT turning the ball over, he converted two pass plays on third down for first downs. He threw a TD to complete his very first possession in the NFL. Face it, if Sanchez had played like McElroy did, you Sanchez Fans would all be predicting a Super Bowl.
It will be interesting if they do give McElroy the starting position, then we'll see what he's able to do. I'm not convinced he's our savior and future franchise QB that some people seem to be making him out to be after playing a bit over a quarter of one game against a crappy team. He played well, sure, but he was also going up against a tired defense as we had way more time of possession and was coming in completely fresh and they played an extremely simplified offense considering he doesn't know much of it. Not to mention people were talking about Sanchez not putting up any points on the board, which is true, but there were two completeable field goals that were missed by Folk. I wonder if McElroy would have even seen a snap if Folk had made those two FGs. Obviously Sanchez played terrible throwing it right at the defense far too often (and not just on the picks), I'm not defending that, I'm just saying that those two FGs make it a completely different game. We may not be having this conversation if not for that.
Well McElroy so far is not the savior, but he does show promise. Keep in mind he threw the first TD all preseason this year. I know it was against scrubs but Sanchez could not do that against the Panthers third string scrubs.
Yeah I hear you. Personally I hope they do give him more snaps or even just make him the starter. I still think Sanchez is better than he is but I'd love for him to prove me wrong. That being said I really don't think they start McElroy next week. Too much money and time invested in Sanchez to kick him to the curb for a nobody backup who hasn't proven anything (other than he can get a TD in pre-season and a one against a tired defense).
The only issue is that the Jets are still in the playoff race. Ryan switching to McElroy is alarming because he practically went all in on their playoff hopes with a 3rd string qb. It makes you wonder if Ryan believes that Sanchez isn't their best chance of winning anymore. Also (judging from last preseason and this year) I feel a different vibe with McElroy behind the center. He seems to read the defenses better and he actually communicates with his linemen which is what I think propelled the rushing attack yesterday. Obvs McElroy has a lot to work on but if the Jets are done w Mark, he can't take another snap this year.
Okay, I can accept your second argument much more. I agree that McElroy is -probably-not the long term answer, but who knows? I do believe, at this stage, that Sanchez isn't. Let's just say I feel confident that that lottery ticket has been checked and we can safely discard it now... As for Tebow.... I think there are only two explanations for us acquiring him: 1. We wanted to see if we could make him into a proper QB since the Broncos couldn't. If that is the case then it is clear we decided we can't. So we can scrub this ticket. 2. We got him because Tanny or maybe Sparano wanted him, but Rex seems to have been against this from day one and acted like he was playing along. Consequently, we have a player the HC actively does not want. Bad situation. Either Tebow goes or Rex goes then. For now, that leaves Tebow on the bench.... In this case we won't be checking this ticket. So McElroy is it. The odds against getting a winner are long, but it has happened before--it is possible to find good players in the 7th round. And anyway, what do we really have to lose. That is my main problem with the McElroy naysayers right now. It isn't like we have ANYTHING to lose. If he wins and looks great then maybe we found a decent QB. If he stinks up the place he helps us get better draft picks. Either way, I'm pleased and he helps us no matter what..... and it will be a helluva lot more entertaining to watch than the embarrassment that is Mark Sanchez. At least McElroy will play with heart.
FAIL! not one person, in any thread mentioning mcelroy has stated or even eluded to him being a future franchise qb. FAIL! did the cardinals defense really run out of gas on that last sanchez 3 and out? we ran on them all day. the only difference was mcelroy didnt get in the way of the run game by throwing 3 interceptions no, instead we would be talking about how sanchez threw a pick 6 to lose us what was a winnable 6-6 game.
what benefit is there to starting sanchez? - we wont make the playoffs - if he continues to start we will continue to not know if mcelroy is a capable backup/starting option best case sanchez continues to suck and we get a better draft pick? i see no reason to play mark. he isnt the future and we will never win with him here
McElroy did well with a pretty simple gameplan. Sporano's likely advice to McElroy before he took the field, "Don't run head first into anybody's ass."
Let me get in my Austin Powers rant mode... "Make sure you dive head first" "Make sure to avoid the Sack" "Brace for impact" "Dont fall on your butt" "Analyze the field" "Use ball control" "Get in deep" "Dink and dunk, avoid the droppers" "Smell the rush" "Let the tackles lead you, dont lead into your own tackle" "Beware of the blitz from the middle" "Shit on them, don't be the shitter"
Did anyone else notice (I'm sure you all did) that Sanchez was essentially pouting on the sidelines? When the Jets scored their TD he raised his arms, but with nary a smile on his face. He looked like a man defeated, ready to literally cry to coach why teacher made him sit in the dunce corner. This is not a leader.....
