I hear ya. I see it as hightower having the better floor and Perry the higher ceiling and thats not saying Hightower has a low ceiling at all. Both are excelent prospects in my mind, I just have a bit of a preference for Perry.

No, I get it completely, Dub Dub. This is outstanding, I can guarantee that it's the exact type of conversation that Jets scouts are having on a day to day basis. It's a matter of figuring out where the value lies on certain players vs. what the needs are going to be. Where we are at a disadvantage is simply that we aren't sure exactly what the plans are regarding the usage of certain players.

For example, if Scott really has played his last game as a Jet then I absolutely agree, ILB becomes an increased need. That said, I myself would feel comfortable adding either a vet FA to step in next to DH considering we already have a star there, or use a more middling pick to add a solid, smart kid that can step in quickly without having that star potential necessarily.

I just wouldn't be able to get past the idea that the Jets opted against adding a passrusher for who would be our 2nd best ILB. Yes, passrush can be created outside of the OLB position, but it's SO much easier when there's a guy who can be counted on for consistent pressure/sacks.

Not bad, havent heard about a few of those guys. I guess I could see Perry at that slot

only issue is that while I like Iloka, I dont like him him middle round two

We signed an old OLB coming off an injury to a one year deal. I think that's more insurance than anything...

Great, ballsy mock. Probably the best one I've seen on here at least for my tastes. You know what the team needs and you get it for us here, very nice work. It's clear that Perry's stock is rising by the day and this is becoming less and less of a crazy idea to consider him on the 16. That said I still wouldn't be at all opposed to thinking about trading back and hoping he survives 5-8 picks and grab Hightower or someone if not.

You go with a safety in round 2 which I love. Personally I would be cutting Eric Smith after drafting a guy like this and picking up a better version of Smith in Free Agency. That would be the ideal to me.

You wanted to trade what, rounds 5 and 6 to move up to mid 4? I actually posted in another thread I believe that I think I might be looking to trade 3 and 4 to move up into late 2nd. With all of the compensatory picks it just makes sense to try to meld maybe 2 of them into one extra high percentage starter. I think going 3+4 or 3+4+compensatory pick looks very attractive to get that 3rd pick in the first 2 rounds assuming we don't trade down (or maybe even 4th pick if we do trade down).

Obviously going OL in round 3 is a major option. I think that it's pretty set that we try to go OLB/S unless someone is there that we're absolutely forced to take if we don't trade down. After that I'd say you could add WR, OL or maybe even back to a 2nd LB in the 3rd round (although admittedly after Thomas resigned I don't think that looks at all attractive anymore).

Happy to see a blocking TE on the menu in a mid round where you might get a decent roleplayer without having to wait around. Cool mock.

Great, thoughtful response. I wish we had more responses like this.

Real quick note for info's sake, Comp. picks are not tradeable. That's kind of a good thing, in that we'll have at least a 4 man draft class this year.

Haha if we end up with only 4 picks somehow I'm going to be really weirded out...we'd probably have some super sick guys on the roster though so depending on what we do in FA if we ended up with only 5 or 6 I probably wouldn't honestly be as angry as most on here.

Anyway yeah technically don't trade the compensatory pick just trade the pick in the corresponding round which is essentially doing the same thing.

Wow so right after I clicked submit on my last post I just had this really crazy image of Mike Tannenbaums smiling face pop into my head and I saw our first few draft picks names appeared over Tanny's bust. Your crazy joke (and the toke) about 4 guys on the squad must have done it to me.

First we took DeCastro at 16. Then Tanny took the 2nd 4th and 7th and traded up for the best LB he could reach whether it be Nick Perry or Hightower or Upshaw or whoever.

Then he took the 3rd, 6th and next years 3rd to move up for the best safety available.

Then he calmly used his 5th and the compensatory's and went home in his ride.

Since the compensation picks cant be traded, we automatically have a 5th, 6th and 7th round pick, so if we were to hypothetically have a 4 person draft, we would be moving up the first round to at least the top five and essentially pulling a Ditka. So in that case, we would have one super sick guy and 3 players who would be lucky to make the team.

Which is why it was obviously said in jest. It did get me to thinking however which led to my following post which seems somehow far less than ridiculous to me if the opportunity presents.
