I dont know why everyone always dismisses Kerley as some just better than average JAG that would be third WR on every other squad, but is our star because the rest of the WRs are bad. He runs great routes, gets open, attacks the ball, catches with his hands and gets good YAC. His only knock is that he isn't tall. Lets give the guy some credit.
even that could be pushing it. unless u are strictly referring to the jets only. he is an adequate NFL caliber WR with a 3rd down/slot niche. with him on the field it makes it necessary for the opposition to account for him, unlike some of the other players the jets trot out there.
He runs great routes, has great hands and his agility to move around gets him open. That said I am not sure he could have playing in the 1 or 2 slot. But why should he. Modern passing attacks use a lot of 3 and 4 man receiver sets. He is very talented and on of my favorite players on the team. Kerley as the 3 and Holmes as the 2 would be a good set of receivers but we really need a go to guy in the no1 slot. And a TE that other teams need to account for.
I called him average last offseason. I'll gladly eat my words. He gets alot of separation & is very good after the catch. He's a plus slot guy.The problem has been keeping him healthy.
This is his first year with health problems I think. A concussion and landing on his arm wrong. As of right now, I wouldn't be worried of his health going forward as he played 30 out of 32 games in his first two years
Kerley is definitely a weapon in the slot. You give him to a guy like Brady and he has 100 catch potential in that role.
The Raider game was the first time in 8 games (that's half a season) with Kerely and Holmes, our 2 best receivers, were playing together in the same game. And what a difference it made. Even Winslow and Nelson looked half way decent. Plus the defense couldn't stack the box nearly as much giving Ivory and Geno some running lanes. Geno's TD run never would have happened without Kerley/Holmes forcing Safties back into coverage.
Kerley is a #3 and very talented WR with what he brings to field as far as production is concerned. It will be crucial for the JETS to make sure that they draft/sign guys at WR that are nowhere close to being unfinished projects but day 1 starters. The JETS need a #1 and a #2 option on offense with Kerley being the #3 guy. As long as defenses are not inching closer to the line of scrimmage to stop the run at all cost, the JETS need players that will allow the offense to be less conservative. Nelson has been a pleasant surprise but with all the strings of injuries to keys guys on the offense it will need to be addressed big time this offseason. All the talk about drafting another QB is premature if he would still have too throw to the same cast of characters.
