Even healthy it wouldn't have been much better! What evidence was there that Dee Milliner was anything, two games late last year? Great, that was the same evidence we had of Geno being anything good - how did that work out this year? Patterson was just a cheap journeyman not worth his 'issues'. McDougle who knows, but clearly he was a red flag from the minute he was drafted and with Idzik's draft track record it's more than even money he would have stunk too. Obviously Pryor hasn't lived up to billing...I almost forget he's on the team except when someone's running by him.
Why would Woody reward Idzik with a new coach and a couple more years of a rebuild, when a lot of the blame for us being 1-7 falls on Idzik?
To me the Patterson signing was smart up to a point. And that was when they found out they couldn't handle the guy when he went AWOL. They shit canned him pretty fast after that. But he was a good option at the position because he had been a decent starting corner when healthy. The question mark to me was deciding to go with Milliner as your top corner. He hadn't proved that he could be reliable cover corner yet although he has talent. How many teams have 2 superior quality corners. Most teams try to get one good guy and then either use a secondary player or go use different players kind of the way the Jets do. And most of these guys are no better than the guys like Walls, etc. the Jets are using. Esp. after injuries kick in. So you don't have to get a big ticket guy like MM and the other vultures are screaming about. To me they're just looking for excuses for Rex. Whose obviously a lot more fun of a guy than Idzik who acts like he should be working in a funeral home (and some say he is).
Slauson,Howard. Cromartie. Sanchez. Roughly 16 odd million in salary this year between them. But hey were gobs of money under the cap.
I'm thinking Rex and Idzik might be more tied together then we think. It all comes down to what direction Woody wants to go at the end of the year. He is probably still a fan of Rex's and might not want to blame him for this season.(which he shouldn't have to) But he could still be on board with Idzik's plan, our great draft position, and cap space. For normal teams it'd make sense to let the GM bring in his coach, but Idzik's faults this year makes it hard to blindly trust him with control of the team. He doesn't have the type of pull to land a big fish like Harbaugh or Gruden. It'll be hard to convince Woody and the fan base we're going to be better off starting over our rebuild with Darren Bevell or Dan Quinn, both of whom are underwhelming this season. Woody might want to stick with Rex one more year knowing that he's been severely undermanned the past few seasons. I see a scenario where we finish 3-13 and both gets fired and a new system comes in, but 5-11, 6-10 might save both of their jobs. Rex's seat is a lot hotter then Idzik's but each embarrassing loss here on out is going to heat Idzik's right up. The team we have now simply has too many holes to compete week in and week out. Until we find a legit QB, overhaul our CB position and patch up the line it's going to be hard to compete. The only positive is we really do have the resources to fix most of this mess. QB is going to be the hardest position to figure out, but if we get good play there and Rex is still on this staff with our improved defense 2015 can be a lot brighter then this season.
I agree with a previous poster about the CB situation. If it wasn't for the big injuries to Milliner and McDougle and the bizarreness around Patterson, this is a very different team because the effect of having more competent corners would be far-reaching. I'm not saying these guys would have been great necessarily, though who knows with Milliner and McDougle, but the situation would undoubtedly be much better than what it is now. With that said, I did not like his choice of Patterson in terms of CBs for one year-deals given his age and injury history. I would have preferred Cromartie back on a 1-year. I also felt like he could have searched for a veteran after the preseason injuries AND after the season-ending one to Milliner. It's easy to play the what-if game, but if this group was healthy, the team's whole situation is different. One thing I would say about bringing in a new GM who is able to pick his coaches is that he'll be working with a ton of cap space and a lot of talented building blocks already in place. I think this would be a very attractive job that could draw the best candidates - much better ones than were in the hunt for the last search...
It hurts every damn week... seeing Sanders destroy everyone he faces... while Decker has been avg at best
Decker has been fine. It wouldn't have mattered as we would not have a Manning type to get Sanders the ball. He would look average w/Geno under center as well.
Just watch the games. At this time of the year there aren't too many good secondaries. The games I'm watching offenses are throwing the ball all over the place successfully. So it's not just the Jets.
Also no other good receivers to distract opposing secondaries. People have to also commit players to cover Welker, Thomas, and Anderson when they play Denver. There's no other standout players on the Jets to draw coverage away from Decker. They can just double or even triple team him all day.
I still can't believe in the year of the WR, with 12 picks we didn't get a great WR. I can't defend that. _
Well there's Harvin, Kerley, we have 2 decent receiving tight ends. Chris Johnson, Powell. Plus a few other guys like Graham. You can't say the Jets have no weapons. Plus the Qb is someone other teams game plan for because he's a weapon, too.
Harvin doesn't count. He didn't get here until the season was already over. Kerley is a decent slot receiver, but a very-below average #2 WR which is what they tried to have him play. Cumberland is hit or miss. Amaro was never allowed to play by our dumbass offensive coordinator until games were nearly over making him a non-factor. Chris Johnson played like absolute crap for the longest stretch. Powell is average at best. Graham didn't join the Jets until it was too late. And let's not act like he's a good wide receiver. He has TWO whole catches this year. Just because he caught that one bomb against Pittsburgh doesn't mean he's good. Otherwise that'd be like calling Stephen Hill a hall of famer. Yes, I can say the Jets had no weapons.
I don't agree. Not a great offense but ok. And it should get better next year. And why doesn't Harvin count. When a playmaker was available the Jets signed the guy and he's looked good.
Idzik needs to go. he blew the draft then hurt out 1st pick because of his dumb@$$ corner moves. missed on a wide receiver in the draft of the wide receiver. did anyone see the catch odell had.....he should have signed two receivers> getting rid of sanchez is 505/50 because he would have put up better numbers the geno the living turn over, forcing geno down our throats and throwing away games to keep playing for that everyone must go Rex for not benching him and idzik for not getting Rex to bench him. He sabotaged this year with his move either on purpose bor because he is stupid either way he should be fired
I'm explaining why Decker's lack of production wasn't his fault. Harvin wasn't he for most of the games so he doesn't count.
I think it was more Geno's inefficiency. Plus while Decker wasn't putting up huge stats (remember he's had a hamstring) he played well. You can't retool the entire offense all at one time plus he did sign the highest rated and most expensive FA that came out last year. Of course you can argue Sanders is better.
Easily could have had a starting CB tandem of Revis and Cro this year. Cro wanted to stay and ended up signing on the cheap in AZ. Revis' 16 M would have fit in Idzik's 23 M. Add back the 3 M (?) wasted on Dmitri AWOL and the situation looks even better. Instead we got...
