Only game #2... but the verdict is rapidly coming in....Jets #1 problem is there front office, namely the GM. He is not a good evaluator of talent. This is his 2nd draft & what do Jets have to show from all these picks. What has it been almost 20 draft picks so far....where is the talent & where is the depth. Geno Smith, I bet Rex picked Sheldon Richardson. This year...I see no exceptional talents stepping forward.
Where is the upgrading of talent. Jets are still weak at LG, still need 2 NFL caliber WR's, still need 2 speed Rushers & a Punter. Idzik need's help in the talent evaluation area, he may be good at Dollar$ & cents....but he fall's short on talent evaluating. He spent $30million on Eric Decker....he's not even #1 WR. Golden Tate & Emmanuel Sanders were available....and he choose to make Eric Decker his choice.. He drafted 3-4 WR's & not one of them sees the light of the field. This guy is a problem, not the solution. Rex is doing a great jpb with the talent he has to work with...But Idzik is hurting the team.

We lost by a touchdown against a powerhouse offense. If the ref didn't think MM was Rex and give them the timeout we would've been tied with who knows what the outcome would've been. So far, the season has played out as most of us thought, but I feel more promising than we all thought. It's only week two. Let's not push the panic button yet.

Totally agree. That said, that doesn't mean what the OP wrote is all nonsense.

He thinks Tate and Sanders is better than Decker so whatever else he said gets no acknowledgement

    So Rex gets no blame?

Didn't he say his defense works regardless who is at corner? Sure didn't look like it today letting up 209 yards Nelson

LOL Missed that one; admittedly, I just skimmed through it. Still there were other legitimate concerns in there though.

If you seriously think that Idzik is the problem, then I respectfully submit that you're wasting your time watching football because you don't understand the game. Idzik may be part of the problem, and may eventually prove to not be a good judge of talent, but it's way too early to know. Everyone knows that it takes at least 2-3 years before you can start evaluating drafts. He's had two drafts. In his first draft, he got the DROY player in Richardson. Not too shabby, especially since it was a player that wasn't on anyone's radar. He added a topflight CB prospect, and everyone knows that it often takes CBs a couple of years to develop. He potentially added their QB of the future in the 2nd round. That in and of itself is pretty darned good for a first draft, but he also found at least two OL who if nothing else will prove to be upgrades at depth, but one (Winters) has been starting. In this draft, he added a great S prospect, a TE prospect who put up amazing numbers last season, added depth at ILB, WR and OLB and added possibly another starting OG prospect. Could the draft have been better? Quite possibly, but it's hard to say because we don't have all the information that Idzik has about the prospects.

Did you ever stop to think that maybe the problem is with Rex and his CS? Maybe they aren't doing a good job of developing the players, getting them to play up to their abilities, or putting them in the position to succeed? This team is perhaps the most undisciplined team in the NFL. That lies at Rex's feet. The HC sets the tone and expectations for the team. It's a known fact that Rex is a players coach and he talks them up and tries to be their friend, rather than pushing them and setting the bar high.

So are you implying that Tate and Sanders are #1 WR's, and that they were the better option than Decker? If so, lay off the drugs. Decker is a far more proven WR in this league than those two combined.

Idzik helped build that Seattle team/defense that is arguably the leagues best at the moment. How about you take a look at his draft record..and basically that entire Seattle seconday...you'd see is track record is pretty decent...

    2008 Draft- 7 Selections
Red Bryant (4th round)- DE; six seasons with the Seahawks; will play in Jacksonville

    2009 Draft- 7 Selections
Max Unger (2nd round)- C/G; sixth season; All Pro in 2012; Pro Bowler 2012, 2013.

    2010 Draft- 9 Selections
Russell Okung (1st round)- OT; fifth season; Pro Bowler in 2012.
Earl Thomas (1st round)- FS; fifth season; All Pro in 2011, 2012, 2013; Pro Bowler 2011, 2012, 2013.
Golden Tate (2nd round)- WR; spent four seasons with Seahawks; will play in Detroit in 2014.
Walter Thurmond (4th round)- CB; spent four seasons in Seattle; will play with the Giants in 2014.
Kam Chancellor (5th round)- SS; fifth season; All Pro 2013; Pro Bowler 2011, 2013.

    2011 Draft- 9 Selections
James Carpenter (1st round)- OG; fourth season.
Richard Sherman (5th round)- CB; fourth season; All Pro 2012, 2013; Pro Bowler 2013

    2012 Draft- 10 Selections
Bruce Irvin (1st round)- OLB; third season.
Bobby Wagner (2nd round)- LB; third season.
Russell Wilson (3rd round)- QB; third season; Pro Bowl in '13 and '14.

    .....looks legit. Stop crying.

Were people really expecting 16-0? Gotta lose some games guys. Sure it sucks to lose em the way we lost today but there were some positives before the Pack woke up.

This team can play with a lot of the teams on their schedule.

I think Idzik has done a very good job with the moves he has made, but with all the cap room he had, he should've done more. There's just not enough depth at WR, CB, and G, but meanwhile the Jets are sitting on $15 million of useless cap room. Decker is better than Tate and Sanders and was a really good signing, but Idzik should've signed one of those two guys as well, because in the event that Decker gets hurt, like he did today, the receivers are just as bad as they were last year, and that hurts Geno a lot as well. Kerley's great, but he's great as a slot guy, not as a #2.

He also very clearly needed to sign somebody better than Patterson to play opposite Milliner, given how much Dee struggled at times last year. But Idzik let Revis, DRC, Flowers, Cro, Verner, etc. pass him by, leaving the team with Allen and Walls as the starters. Those guys are solid #3/4 corners, but they're going to get exposed against good WRs, like they did today (and I can only imagine how bad it's going to get against Marshall/Jeffrey and then Calvin/Tate the next two weeks).

At guard, both Winters and Colon have really set the team back on key plays in its first two games.

It's frustrating because it feels like this team is really close to being really good, but the holes/lack of depth at those three positions are holding them back from getting to that level. With a few more mid-tier signings, combined with Idzik's other good moves, the Jets could've been an elite team, but IMO he didn't go far enough, even though he had the cap room to do so.

While it may be too early to say Idzik is the problem, let's not give him credit for Seattle's drafts. He was the VP of Football Operations mostly in charge of contract negotiations. To say he helped build Seattle Superbowl team may be stretching it. Let's just hope for our sake some of that great talent evaluation in the draft rubbed off on him by being in the war room.

He pretty much said that by saying his defense works regardless who is at corner.

Idk what he should have said but clearly his defense doesn't work with just anyone at cb

How do we know rex didn't tell Idzik the same thing and that's why he didn't break the bank for a cb?
