Exactly. Which is what my friends in Pittsburgh have told me all along. I was hoping for a turn around from Holmes. HA!
You can't prove he did any of that. He got benched for yelling at a teammate? Funny how when "certain" players yell at teammate it's called "fire" and "passion". Interesting.
It all started last week when there was an argument in a players meeting involving Holmes and Sanchez. I can guarantee you he did not get benched for yelling at a teammate. Holmes quit on the team, when you get called out by Tomlinson for not doing your job as a captain of the offense then obviously you're not doing something right. There's 2 different ways of going at your teammates with fire and passion like you are talking about. If you've played sports before then you know what I'm talking about.
Holmes was only worth a 5th rounder in trade the first time around. Now he's coming off a shitty year, has more baggage, and carries a major cap hit (unlike when he was traded before). There's no 1st rounder available for him. There probably isn't a 5th rounder.
This is just turning this team into a shit show... Headlines for the wrong reason is embrassing to be a fan right now.... Team divided teamtes blaming each other... A coach not gripping his team by the throat... What a embrassment
Still doesn't change the fact Holmes got into it with another player in a players meeting (which is no big deal to me honestly) but carried that over to game day and let that spat hurt his production and demeanor on the field. If you're getting told by multiple teammates to let it go, man up and play the game of football that you're capable of playing then somethings wrong and the guy deserved to be yanked. How can you keep a guy like that in the huddle and on the field expecting to get something out of him?
Thanks for the great article. It gives some good perspective on what to do with Holmes. He's too expensive to keep and cutting him would be damaging cap wise. Our best action would seem to be a trade where we pass on his contract to another team. Given his track record, that could be a tough sell. We will be lucky to get a 5th round pick. It's not like he's a 100/1200/10 talent. As for trashing Rex and Tanny, what did we lose? We spent a 5 th round pick and cash for a guy who scored some big TDs for us but turned into a prima donna. You've got to take risks and that one is not going to set us back much.
We have to - HAVE TO get rid of him. There is no room for quitters - you cant mend that. We cant trust him either. He is cancer to our team now.
They have to cut him. No player is so good that it's worth having that kind of cancer in the locker room. And no matter what we think about Sanchez, he's the QB and the leader in the huddle. You can't have a supporting player dissing the QB and destroying the cohesion of the offense. Belichick got a few good years out of Moss and then cut him immediately as soon as the attitude started showing. And that's Moss we're talking about. Holmes is not some elite, must-have, game-changer WR. There are plenty of #1 WR coming out in FA this year--let Holmes go and pick up someone else.
If you cut Holmes, who are you going to replace him with, Scotty McKnight? If we can get something even close to AJ Green in the draft, fine. Otherwise, don't complain next year when you see the Patrick Turner and Plaxico Burress as our #1 and #2 WRs.
If we trade him, do we still have to pay him? or does the other team have to? I doubt any team would want to pay this loser. What needs to happen is, Rex needs to sit down and talk to him. But hearing that he was escorted out of the team meeting dismorning, it doesnt look good at all.
"If you cut Holmes, who are you going to replace him with, Scotty McKnight? " Who cares? Anything is better than a guy that no one trusts and who poisons the locker room. T.O. probably could have come in this year and immediately been a top-10 WR. But no one signed him. Why? Because even a top-10 WR, shoe-in HoFer isn't worth that kind of attitude and headache. No team in the league wants that noise. And why does everyone think a good WR can only come in a high draft pick or expensive FA? Look around for potential talent in the undrafteds-- there are likely a few more Victor Cruz's and Miles Austins sitting around just waiting for an opportunity.
Why do people keep talking about cutting him as if we wouldn't still have to pay him after cutting him? We need to squash this issue and move on to get our money's worth from SH.
Here's the thing with Holmes. Him and Schotty have been at odds for a while. Santonio is fast and can get separation. Schotty benched him, probably because he was mortified with the play calls are routes for him. They clearly weren't working. Whether that's on Holmes or Schotty is up for debate. I think if Schotty goes, then Holmes stays and everything works out next year. I've seen Sanchez and others frustrated with Schotty as well at times. I think that's the common denominator. I won't deny that Sanchez was off target in the last game, but it goes deeper than that when you look at the entire season.
